المساقاة في النخيل والكروم على الثلث والربع وما أشبهه
The sharecropping in date palms and vineyards is on the basis of one-third, one-fourth, and the like.
يقال: ساقى فلان فلانا نخله أو كرمه إذا دفعه إليه واستعمله فيه على أن يعمره ويسقيه ويقوم بمصلحته من الإبار وغيره، فما أخرج الله منه فللعامل سهم من كذا وكذا سهما مما تغله، والباقي لمالك النخل
It is said: So-and-so made a sharecropping agreement with so-and-so for his date palm or vineyard if he handed it over to him and employed him in it to cultivate it, water it, and attend to its needs, such as pollination and other matters. Then, whatever Allah brings forth from it, the worker gets a share of such-and-such a portion of its yield, and the remainder belongs to the owner of the palm.
وأهل العراق يسمونها المعاملة
And the people of Iraq call it Al-Mu'amalah.
وهو قائل السقيا
And he is the one who said (or is associated with) Al-Suqya.
أنه كان يستعذب الماء من بيوت السقيا
That he used to seek fresh water from the houses of Al-Suqya.
