It is said: So-and-so is distant in ambition, meaning distant in his aims.
يعني همه الذي تنازعه نفسه إليه،

ويروى هذا البيت بالشين المعجمة من الشأو، وهو الغاية

والسأو بعد الهم والنزاع،

يقال: إنك لذو سأو بعيد أي لبعيد الهم.

And sa'awtu bayna al-qawm sa'wan, meaning I caused discord between the people.

لقد لقيت قريظة ما سآها، ... وحل بدارها ذل ذليل
Qurayzah has indeed met what saddened them, ... and humiliation has settled in their dwelling.
وأكره مسائيك،
And I dislike things that grieve you,
ويقال: سأوته بمعنى سؤته.
And it is said: Sa'awtuhu meaning su'tuhu (I grieved him).
