قال ابن الأنباري: أخبرني أبي عن بعض شيوخه قال كانت العرب تسمي جمادى الآخرة رنى، وذا القعدة رنة، وذا الحجة برك.

Ibn al-Anbari said: My father informed me from some of his sheikhs that the Arabs used to name Jumada al-Akhirah 'rana', Dhu al-Qi'dah 'rannah', and Dhu al-Hijjah 'barak'.

قال ابن خالويه: رنة اسم جمادى الآخرة؛ وأنشد: يا آل زيد، احذروا هذي السنه، ... من رنة حتى يوافيها رنه

Ibn Khalaweyh said: 'Rannah' is the name of Jumada al-Akhirah; and he recited: O family of Zayd, beware of this year, from 'Rannah' until 'Rannah' arrives.

والربى، بالباء: الشاة النفساء

And 'al-rubba', with a ba: is the ewe that has recently given birth.

لأن فيه يعلم ما نتجت حروبهم أي ما انجلت عليه أو عنه، مأخوذ من الشاة الربى؛
