ويقال: ذكو قلبه يذكو إذا حي بعد بلادة، فهو ذكي على فعيل، وقد يستعمل ذلك في البعير

وذكا الريح: شدتها من طيب أو نتن

Ibn al-Athir: The تذكية is slaughter and sacrifice; it is said: I slaughtered the sheep with تذكية, and the noun is الذكاة, and the slaughtered one is ذكي.
ابن سيده: وذكاء الحيوان ذبحه؛ ومنه قوله: يذكيها الأسل
Ibn Sidah: And the ذكاء of an animal is its slaughter; and from it is his saying: the spear slaughters it.
وما أكل السبع إلا ما ذكيتم
And not what the predator ate except what you have slaughtered.
ومعنى التذكية: أن تدركها وفيها بقية تشخب معها الأوداج وتضطرب اضطراب المذبوح الذي أدركت ذكاته

كل ما أمسكت عليك كلابك ذكي وغير ذكي
Everything your dogs catch for you is ذكي and not ذكي.
وأراد بالذكي ما أمسك عليه فأدركه قبل زهوق روحه فذكاه في الحلق واللبة
And he meant by ذكي what it caught and he reached it before its soul departed, so he slaughtered it in the throat and the brisket.
وأراد بغير الذكي ما زهقت روحه قبل أن يدركه فيذكيه مما جرحه الكلب بسنه أو ظفره
And he meant by not ذكي what its soul departed before he reached it to slaughter it from what the dog wounded it with its tooth or claw.
ذكاة الأرض يبسها ؛ يريد طهارتها من النجاسة
The ذكاة of the land is its dryness; meaning its purification from impurity.
