I 'jadawtuhu' him: I asked him for and I gave him; it is from the opposites.
جدوت أناسا موسرين فما جدوا، ألا الله فاجدوه إذا كنت جاديا
I asked wealthy people, but they did not give; so ask Allah if you are a beggar.
جئنا نحييك ونستجديكا من نائل الله الذي يعطيكا
We came to greet you and to seek from you the gifts of Allah who gives to you.
ليس عنده مال يجادونه عليه
He does not have wealth that they would ask him for.
ألا أيهذا المجتدينا بشتمه، تأمل رويدا، إنني من تعرف
Beware, O you who ask with your insults, ponder slowly, for I am whom you know.
ما يجدي عنك هذا أي ما يغني
What use is this to you? Meaning, what benefit does it bring?
قلما يجدي فلان عنك أي قلما يغني
So-and-so rarely benefits you, meaning he rarely suffices.

فشك فخذه إلى جدية السرج
So he pierced his thigh to the padding of the saddle.
فقيل: الجديات نمور، فقال: إنما ينهى عن الصفة
It was said: 'The saddle pads are tigers,' so he said: 'It is only the saddle cloth that is forbidden.'
اصفرت جدية وجهه
The color of his face turned yellow.
تخال جدية الأبطال فيها، غداة الروع، جاديا مدوفا
You would think the faces of heroes in it, on the day of battle, were saffron mixed.
وإن أجدى أظلاها ومرت، لمنهبها، عقام خنشليل
And if the wound bled, its blood flowed and passed, from its path, a barren, thin stream.
سيول الجدية جادت، مراشاة كل قتيل قتيلا
The streams of blood flowed, a bribe for every slain person.
فانثعبت جدية الدم
And the first gush of blood flowed.
صابوا بستة أبيات وواحدة، حتى كأن عليها جاديا لبدا
They struck with six houses and one, until it was as if locusts covered it thickly.
شط المزار بجدوى وانتهى الأمل
The place of visitation became distant with Jadwa, and hope ended.
