Jathā yajthū wa yajthī jathwan wa jathyan, on fa'ūl in both: he sat on his knees for litigation and the like.
وَيُقَالُ: جَثَا فُلَانٌ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ.
And it is said: So-and-so knelt on his knees.
إِنَّا أُنَاسٌ مَعْدِيُّونَ عَادَتُنَا، ... عِنْدَ الصِّيَاحِ، جُثِيُّ الْمَوْتِ لِلرُّكَبِ
We are a people of 'Ad, our custom is, ... when called upon, the kneeling of death for the knees.

وَمِنْهُ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: "وَنَذَرَ الظَّالِمِينَ فِيهَا جُثِيًّا".
And from this is His saying, the Almighty: 'And the wrongdoers will be seen in it kneeling.'
وَجَاثَيْتُ رُكْبَتِي إِلَى رُكْبَتِهِ.
And I pressed my knee against his knee.
وَتَجَاثَوْا عَلَى الرُّكَبِ.
And they crowded together on their knees.
إِنَّ النَّاسَ يَصِيرُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ جُثًى كُلُّ أُمَّةٍ تَتْبَعُ نَبِيَّهَا
Indeed, people will become on the Day of Resurrection as kneeling groups; every nation will follow its prophet.
أَنَا أَوَّلُ مَنْ يَجْثُو لِلْخُصُومَةِ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.
I am the first who will kneel for judgment before Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
وَقَدْ تَجَاثَوْا فِي الْخُصُومَةِ مُجَاثَاةً وَجِثَاءً، وَهُمَا مِنَ الْمَصَادِرِ الْآتِيَةِ عَلَى غَيْرِ أَفْعَالِهَا.

وَقَدْ جَثَا جَثْوًا وَجَثْوًا، كَجَذَا جَذْوًا وَجَذْوًا، إِذَا قَامَ عَلَى أَطْرَافِ أَصَابِعِهِ.
And he knelt jathwan and jathwan, like 'he stood on his toes' (jadhā) jadhwan and jadhwan, when he stood on the tips of his fingers.
وَتَرَى كُلَّ أُمَّةٍ جَاثِيَةً
And you will see every nation kneeling.
عَفَّ عَلَى جُثَاهُ نُحُورٍ
He was chaste over the mounds of his ancestors' sacrifices.
رَأَيْتُ قُبُورَ الشُّهَدَاءِ جُثًى يَعْنِي أَتْرِبَةً مَجْمُوعَةً.
I saw the graves of the martyrs as mounds, meaning collected heaps of earth.
فَإِذَا لَمْ نَجِدْ حَجَرًا جَمَعْنَا جُثْوَةً مِنْ تُرَابٍ.
So if we do not find a stone, we gather a mound of earth.
مِنْ دُعَاءِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَهُوَ مِنْ جُثَى جَهَنَّمَ.
Whoever calls with the call of ignorance, then he is from the mounds of Hell.
مِنْ دَعَا يَا لَفُلَانٍ فَإِنَّمَا يَدْعُو إِلَى جُثَى النَّارِ
Whoever calls 'O so-and-so', then he is only calling to the mounds of the Fire.
فُلانٌ مِنْ جُثَى جَهَنَّمَ
So-and-so is from the mounds of Hell.
ثُمَّ لَنَحْضُرَنَّهُمْ حَوْلَ جَهَنَّمَ جِثِيًّا
Then We will surely gather them around Hell, kneeling.
تَرَى جُثْوَتَيْنِ مِنْ تُرَابٍ، عَلَيْهِمَا ... صَفَائِحُ صُمٌّ مِنْ صَفِيحٍ مُصَمَّدٍ مُوصَدِ
You see two mounds of earth, upon them ... solid slabs of firmly set, sealed metal.
وَجُثْوَةُ كُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ: جَسَدُهُ.
And the juthwah of every person is: his body.
وَالْجُثْوَةُ: الْبَدَنُ وَالْوَسَطُ؛ عَنِ ابْنِ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ؛ وَمِنْهُ قَوْلُ دَغْفَلٍ الذُّهْلِيِّ: وَالْعَنْبَرُ جُثْوَتُهَا، يَعْنِي بَدَنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ تَمِيمٍ وَوَسَطَهَا.
And the juthwah: the body and the middle; from Ibn al-A'rabi; and from this is the saying of Daghfal al-Dhuhli: 'And al-'Anbar is its juthwah', meaning the body and the middle of 'Amr ibn Tamim.
يُقَالُ لِلرَّجُلِ إِنَّهُ لَعَظِيمُ الْجُثْوَةِ وَالْجُثَّةِ.
It is said of a man that he is great in juthwah and juththah.
وَجُثْوَةُ الرَّجُلِ: جَسَدُهُ، وَالْجَمْعُ الْجُثَى؛ وَأَنْشَدَ: يَوْمَ تَرَى جُثْوَتَهُ فِي الْأَقْبَرِ
And the juthwah of a man is: his body, and the plural is al-juthā; and he recited: The day you see his body in the graves.
وَالْقَبْرُ جُثْوَةٌ، وَمَا ارْتَفَعَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ نَحْوَ ارْتِفَاعِ الْقَبْرِ جُثْوَةٌ.
And the grave is a juthwah, and what rises from the earth to the height of a grave is a juthwah.
وَالْجُثْوَةُ: التُّرَابُ الْمُجْتَمِعُ.
And the juthwah: the collected earth.
وَجَذْوَةٌ مِنْ نَارٍ وَجُثْوَةٌ
And an ember of fire and a juthwah.
