وتبنى السنام: سمن
And the camel's hump became fat: it fattened.
أما غلامي إذا أردت الإضافة مع غلام في غير الإضافة فليس بإيطاء، لأن هذه الياء ألزمت الميم الكسرة وصيرته إلى أن يبنى عليه
As for my slave-boy when you want to add it to 'slave-boy' in a non-genitive construction, it is not repetition, because this 'ya' has necessitated the kasrah on the 'mim' and made it so that it is built upon.
وهو أن غلام نكرة وغلامي معرفة، وأيضا فإن في لفظ غلامي ياء ثابتة وليس غلام بلا ياء كذلك، والثالث أن كسرة غلامي بناء عنده كما ذكر وكسرة ميم مررت بغلام إعراب لا بناء
And that is that 'ghulam' is indefinite and 'ghulami' is definite, and also in the word 'ghulami' there is a fixed 'ya' while 'ghulam' is without a 'ya' likewise, and the third is that the kasrah of 'ghulami' is a construction according to him as mentioned, and the kasrah of the 'mim' in 'I passed by a slave-boy' is inflection, not construction.
والمبناة والمبناة أيضا: العيبة
And the mabnah and the mabnah are also: the bag.
وما رأيته متقيا الأرض بشيء قط إلا أني أذكر يوم مطر فإنا بسطنا له بناء
And I never saw him protecting the ground with anything, except I remember a rainy day when we spread out a mat for him.
قال شمر: قوله بناء أي نطعا، وهو متصل بالحديث
Shammir said: His saying 'binā'' means a hide, and it is connected to the hadith.
ويقال له المبناة والمبناة أيضا
And it is also called the mabnah and the mabnah.
يقال للبيت هذا بناء آخرته
It is said of the house, 'This is a building for your afterlife.'
المبناة من أدم كهيئة القبة تجعلها المرأة في كسر بيتها فتسكن فيها
The mabnah is made of leather like a dome that a woman makes in a corner of her house to live in.
على ظهر مبناة جديد سيورها
On the back of a new mabnah whose straps are intact.
المبناة قبة من أدم
The mabnah is a dome of leather.
المبناة حصير أو نطع يبسطه التاجر على بيعه
The mabnah is a mat or a hide that a merchant spreads over his goods.
وخرزوا المباني في بني زدهام
And they stitched the buildings among the Banu Zadam.
وأبنيته بيتا أي أعطيته ما يبني بيتا
And I gave him what builds a house, meaning I gave him what he could build a house with.
والبانية من القسي: التي لصق وترها بكبدها حتى كاد ينقطع وترها في بطنها من لصوقه بها
And the bāniyah of bows: is that whose string stuck to its core until the string almost broke in its belly from sticking to it.
وقوس بانية بنت على وترها إذا لصقت به حتى يكاد ينقطع
And a bāniyah bow is one that stuck to its string until it almost broke.
وقوس باناة: فجاء، وهي التي ينتحي عنها الوتر
And a bānāh bow: is one that is bent, and it is that from which the string is drawn away.
ورجل باناة: منحن على وتره عند الرمي
And a bānāh man: bent over his string when shooting.
وأما البائنة فهي التي بانت عن وترها، وكلاهما عيب
As for the bā'inah, it is that which separated from its string, and both are defects.
والبواني: أضلاع الزور
And the buwānī: are the ribs of the chest.
والبواني: قوائم الناقة
And the buwānī: are the legs of the she-camel.
وألقى بوانيه: أقام بالمكان واطمأن وثبت كألقى عصاه وألقى أرواقه، والأرواق جمع روق البيت، وهو رواقه
And he cast his buwānīh: he settled in the place, became calm and firm, like he cast his staff and cast his awnings, and al-arwāq is the plural of the awning of the house, which is its portico.
والبواني: عظام الصدر
And the buwānī: are the bones of the chest.
فإن يكن أمسى شبابي قد حسر، وفترت مني البواني وفتر
If my youth has passed and waned, and my ribs have weakened and grown feeble.
فلما ألقى الشام بوانيه عزلني واستعمل غيري
And when the Levant cast its buwānīh, he dismissed me and appointed someone else.
والبواني في الأصل أضلاع الصدر، وقيل: الأكتاف والقوائم، الواحدة بانية
And the buwānī originally are the ribs of the chest, and it is said: the shoulders and the legs, the singular is bāniyah.
ألقت السماء برك بوانيها
The sky cast its blessings of its buwānīh.
يريد ما فيها من المطر
He means what is in it of rain.
والبوائن جمع البوان، وهو اسم كل عمود في البيت ما خلا وسط البيت الذي له ثلاث طرائق
And al-bawā'in is the plural of al-buwān, and it is the name of every pole in the tent except the center of the tent which has three passages.
وبنيت عن حال الركية: نحيت الرشاء عنه لئلا يقع التراب على الحافر
And I turned away from the state of the well: I moved the rope away from it so that dirt would not fall on the bucket.
والباني: العروس الذي يبني على أهله
And the bānī: is the bridegroom who consummates with his family.
وبنى فلان على أهله بناء، ولا يقال بأهله، هذا قول أهل اللغة
And so-and-so consummated with his family, and it is not said 'bi-ahluhu', this is the saying of the linguists.
وحكى ابن جني: بنى فلان بأهله وابتنى بها، عداهما جميعا بالباء
And Ibn Jinni narrated: So-and-so consummated with his family and built with her, making both transitive with 'bi'.
والعامة تقول بنى بأهله، وهو خطأ، وليس من كلام العرب
And the common people say 'banā bi-ahluhu', and it is an error, and not from the speech of the Arabs.
وكانوا يجعلون الحصر على الأنطاع يطوفون بها، وإنما سميت مبناة لأنها تتخذ من أدم يوصل بعضها ببعض
And they used to place mats on hides and go around with them, and it was only called mabnah because it is made of leather joined together.
وكان أول ما أنزل من الحجاب في مبتنى رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، بزينب
And the first thing that was revealed of the veil was concerning the consummation of the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, with Zaynab.
والابتناء والبناء: الدخول بالزوجة، والمبتنى هاهنا يراد به الابتناء فأقامه مقام المصدر
And al-ibtinā' and al-binā': are entering upon the wife, and al-mabtanā here is intended to mean al-ibtinā', so it stands in place of the masdar.
يا نبي الله متى تبنيني أي تدخلني على زوجتي
O Prophet of God, when will you consummate me, meaning, when will you let me enter upon my wife.
وحقيقته متى تجعلني أبتني بزوجتي
And its reality is: when will you make me consummate with my wife.
وجارية بناة اللحم أي مبنية اللحم
And a jāriyah banāh al-lahm, meaning, built of flesh.
بناة اللحم جماء العظام
Built of flesh, with solid bones.
من بنى في ديار العجم يعمل نيروزهم ومهرجانهم حشر معهم
Whoever builds in the lands of the non-Arabs, celebrating their Nowruz and their festivals, will be resurrected with them.
