وقيل: كان في الأصل ائتله يأتله، فأدغمت الواو في التاء فقيل اتله يتله، ثم حذفت التاء فقيل تله يتله، كما قالوا تخذ يتخذ وتقي يتقى، والأصل فيهما اتخذ يتخذ واتقى يتقى،

And it was said: it was originally 'a'taluhu ya'taluhu, so the waw was assimilated into the taa, and it was said 'attaluhu ya'taluhu, then the taa was dropped and it was said 'taluhu ya'taluhu, just as they said 'takhidhu ya'takhidhu and taqiyyu yataqqa, and the origin of both is 'attakhidhu ya'takhidhu and 'attaqqa yataqqa,

وقيل: تله كان أصله دله.

And it was said: taluhu its origin was daluhu.

ابن سيده: التله لغة في التلف،

Ibn Sidah said: Al-taluhu is a dialectal variant for al-talafu (destruction),

والمتلهة المتلفة.

And al-mutallihah (is) al-mutlifah (destructive).

وفلاة متلهة أي متلفة؛

And a perilous desert, meaning destructive;

به تمطت غول كل متله

By it, the ghoul of every destructive (place) stretches out

تلهت كذا وتلهت عنه أي ضللته وأنسيته.
