وآبهته أعلمته؛ وأنشد لأمية: إذ آبهتهم ولم يدروا بفاحشة، ... وأرغمتهم ولم يدروا بما هجعوا
And I informed them; and Umayya said: When I informed them and they did not know of any indecency... and I humiliated them and they did not know what they were sleeping through.
أشيء أوهمته لم آبه له أو شيء ذكرته إياه أي لا أدري أهو شيء ذكره النبي وكنت غفلت عنه فلم آبه له، أو شيء ذكرته إياه وكان يذكره بعد.
Is it something I imagined that I paid no attention to, or something I mentioned to him, meaning I don't know if it is something the Prophet mentioned and I was heedless of it and did not pay attention to it, or something I mentioned to him and he used to mention it later.
والأبهة: العظمة والكبر.
And 'al-abhah' means grandeur andكبر.
ورجل ذو أبهة أي ذو كبر وعظمة.
And a man of 'abhah' means a man ofكبر and grandeur.
وتأبه فلان على فلان تأبها إذا تكبر ورفع قدره عنه؛ وأنشد ابن بري لرؤبة: وطامح من نخوة التأبه
And so-and-so acted arrogantly towards so-and-so with arrogance when he was proud and raised himself above him; and Ibn al-Bari quoted Ru'bah: And a haughty one from the pride of arrogance.
كم من ذي أبهة قد جعلته حقيرا
How many a dignified person have I made insignificant.
الأبهة، بالضم والتشديد للباء: العظمة والبهاء.
'Al-abhah', with damma and shadda on the ba: grandeur and splendor.
إذا لم يكن المخزومي ذا بأو وأبهة لم يشبه قومه
If the Makhzumi is not a man of might and grandeur, he does not resemble his people.
رب أشعث أغبر ذي طمرين لا يؤبه له أي لا يحتفل به لحقارته.
Perhaps a disheveled, dusty one with two worn garments, who is not paid attention to, meaning he is not honored due to his insignificance.
ويقال للأء: أبه، وقد به يبه أي بح يبح.
