ولذلك سماه الأعشى وثنا

وأن أرض مضبوطة ممطورة وقد ضبطت ووثنت بالماء
And a land is well-watered and rained upon, and it has been rained upon and watered.
واستوثنت الإبل: نشأت أولادها معها
And the camels 'istawthana': their offspring grew up with them.
واستوثن النحل: صار فرقتين كبارا وصغارا
And the bees 'istawthana': they became two swarms, large and small.
واستوثن المال: كثر
And wealth 'istawthana': it became abundant.
واستوثن من المال: استكثر منه مثل استوثج واستوثر
And he 'istawthana' from wealth: he acquired much of it, like 'istawthaja' and 'istawthara'.
