And al-tafneen: mixing; it is said: a garment has tafneen if it has patterns not of its kind.
والفنن: الغصن المستقيم طولا وعرضا؛
And al-fanan: the straight branch in length and width;
والفنن: الغصن، وقيل: الغصن القضيب يعني المقضوب، والفنن: ما تشعب منه، والجمع أفنان.
And al-fanan: the branch, and it is said: the cut branch, and al-fanan: what branches from it, and the plural is afnān.
وأما قول الشاعر: منا أن ذر قرن الشمس، حتى ... أغاث شريدهم فنن الظلام

And a man is fīnan and a woman is fīnanah; Ibn Sīdah said: And this is the analogy because the masculine fīnan is declined, derived from the branches of the tree.
وفي الحديث: أهل الجنة مرد مكحلون أولو أفانين ؛ يريد أولو شعور وجمم.
And in the hadith: The people of Paradise will be beardless, kohl-eyed, possessing abundant hair; meaning possessing hair and thick locks.
