And al-mufāṭanah: is a reciprocal action from him.
وأما الفطن فذو فطنة للأشياء، قال: ولا يمتنع كل فعل من النعوت من أن يقال قد فعل وفطن أي صار فطنا إلا القليل.
As for al-faṭin, he is one possessing perceptiveness towards things, he said: And not every verb derived from adjectives can be said to have been done and faṭana, meaning became faṭin, except for a few.
وفطنه لهذا الأمر تفطينا: فهمه.
And faṭanahu li-hādhā al-amr tafṭīnan: to make him understand it.
وفي المثل: لا يفطن القارة إلا الحجارة؛ القارة: أنثى الذئبة.
And in the proverb: Only stones make the she-wolf aware; al-qārah: is the she-wolf.
وفاطنة في الحديث: راجعه؛ قال الراعي: إذا فاطنتنا في الحديث تهزهزت ... إليها قلوب، دونهن الجوانح
And fāṭana in hadith: means to converse back; Al-Ra'i said: When we converse with her in speech, hearts are stirred towards her, with the ribs between them.
ويقال: فطنت إليه وله وبه فطنة وفطانة.
And it is said: one becomes aware of it, for it, and by it with fiṭnah and fuṭānah.
ويقال: ليس له فطن أي فطنة.
And it is said: he has no faṭan, meaning fiṭnah.
