And Ibn Barrī mentioned it: Al-Fartana, definite with 'al-' and 'lam', he said: and likewise al-Haluk and al-Mawmisa.
وَفَرَتَ الرَّجُلَ ي 9 فَرْتًا فَرْتًا: فَجَرَ؛ قالَ: وَأمّا سِيبَوَيهِ فَجَعَلَهُ رُباعِياً.
And he committed fornication with the man, a fornication; he said: As for Sibawayh, he made it quadriliteral.
ابنُ الأعرابِيّ: يُقالُ لِلأمَةِ الفَرتَنَى.
Ibn al-A'rabi: Al-Fartana is said of the slave girl.
وابنُ الفَرتَنَى: وَهُوَ ابنُ الأمَةِ البَغِيّ، والعَرَبُ تُسَمِّي الأمَةَ فَرتَنَى.
And Ibn al-Fartana: meaning the son of the prostitute slave girl, and the Arabs name the slave girl Fartana.
قالَ ابنُ بَرِّي: وَقالَ الأحوَلُ ابنُ فَرتَنَى وابنُ تَرنَى يُقالانِ لِلَئيمٍ.
And Ibn Barrī said: And al-Ahwal said: Ibn Fartana and Ibn Turna are said of a base person.
وَقالَ ثَعلَبٌ: فَرتَنَى الأمَةُ، وكَذَلِكَ تَرنَى؛ قالَ الأشْهَبُ بنُ رَمِيلَةَ.
And Tha'lab said: Fartana means slave girl, and likewise Turna; Ashhab ibn Rumaylah said.
أتاني ما قالَ البَعِيثُ ابنُ فَرتَنَى، ... ألم تَخشَ، إذ أوَعدتَها، أن تَكذِبا؟
What Ba'ith Ibn Fartana said has reached me... Did you not fear, when you promised her, that you would lie?
وقالَ جَرِيرٌ: ألم تَرَ أنّي، إذ رَمَيتُ ابنَ فَرتَنَى ... بِصَمّاءَ، لا يَرجو الحَياةَ أميمُها
And Jarir said: Did you not see that I, when I struck Ibn Fartana with a deadly blow, her mother despairing of life,
وقالَ أيِضاً: مَهلاً بَعِيثُ، فَإنَّ أمَّكَ فَرتَنَى ... حَمراءَ، أثخَنتَ العُلُوجَ رِداماً
And he also said: Gently, Ba'ith, for your mother is Fartana, a red-haired woman, you have heavily wounded the infidels with slaughter.
قالَ أبو عُبَيدٍ: أرادَ الأمَةَ، وَكانَت أمُّ البَعِيثِ حَمراءَ مِن سَبِي أصفَهانَ، وابنُ تَرنَى ذَكَرهُ في تَرن.
Abu Ubayd said: He meant the slave girl, and Ba'ith's mother was a red-haired woman from the captives of Isfahan, and Ibn Turna is mentioned in Tarn.
وَفَرتَنَى، مَقصُورٌ: اسمُ امرَأةٍ؛ قالَ النّابِغَةُ:
And Fartana, shortened: the name of a woman; Al-Nabigha said:
عَفا ذو حَسا مِن فَرتَنَى فَالفَوارِعُ، ... فَجَنبَا أريكَ، فَالتِلاعُ الدَّوافِعُ
Dhu Hasa has become desolate, from Fartana and the high grounds, then the sides of Arika, then the flowing ravines.
وَفَرتَنَى أيِضاً: قَصرٌ بِمَروِ الرُّوذِ كانَ ابنُ خازِمٍ قَد حاصَرَ فيهِ زُهَيرَ بنَ ذُؤَيبٍ العَدَوِيَّ الَّذِي يُقالُ لَهُ الهَزارمَردُ.
