وهو لك بين الأوب والعنن إما أن يؤوب إليك، وإما أن يعرض عليك
And it is for you between returning and appearing, either it returns to you, or it presents itself to you.
تبدي صدودا، وتخفي بيننا لطفا ... يأتي محارم بين الأوب والعنن
You show aversion, and hide kindness between us... It comes in forbidden ways between returning and appearing.
العان من السحاب: الذي يعترض في الأفق

والتعنين: الحبس
And al-taʿnīn: confinement.
وفلان عنان عن الخير وخناس وكزام
And so-and-so is distant from good, and a shirker, and a stopper.
والعنين: الذي لا يأتي النساء ولا يريدهن
And al-ʿanīn: he who does not approach women nor desires them.
وعنن عن امرأته إذا حكم القاضي عليه بذلك أو منع عنها بالسحر
And he 'ʿanana' from his wife if the judge ruled that or prevented her by magic.
وسمي عنينا لأنه يعن ذكره لقبل المرأة من عن يمينه وشماله فلا يقصده
And he is named 'ʿanīn' because his penis is presented to the woman's vulva from his right and left, and he does not aim for it.
تعننت للموت الذي هو واقع، ... وأدركت ثأري في نمير وعامر
I presented myself for the death that was to occur, ... and I took my revenge among Namir and 'Amir.
وإنه ليأخذ في كل فن وعن وسن بمعنى واحد

ترى اللحم من ذابل قد ذوى، ... ورطب يرفع فوق العنن
