Al-misn in the speech of the Arabs is seven things: Al-misn is the snake when it bites, it kills on the spot; the Arabs say, 'May God strike him with the silencing misn'.

That Abu Ad-Darda' used to enter the حمام (bathhouse) and say, 'What a good place the bathhouse is, it removes the unpleasant odor (as-sunnah) and reminds of the Fire'.

أراد بالصنة الصنان، وهو رائحة المغابن ومعاطف الجسم إذا فسد وتغير فعولج بالمرتك وما أشبهه

He meant by as-sunnah: as-sanān, which is the odor of the armpits and body folds when they spoil and change, and are treated with myrrh and the like.

ويقال للتيس إذا هاج قد أصن، فهو مصن، وصنانه ريحه عند هياجه

And it is said of a ram when it becomes aroused, it has become haughty (asanna), so it is a misn, and its sanānah is its odor when it is aroused.

And as-sanān: the strong odor of the armpit.

وأصن الرجل: صار له صنان

And a man became smelly (asanna): he developed a strong odor.

ويقال للبغلة إذا أمسكتها في يدك فأنتنت: قد أصنت

And it is said of a mule if you hold it in your hand and it stinks: it has become smelly (asannat).

ويقال للرجل المطيخ المخفي كلامه: مصن

And it is said of a man who is secretive and hides his words: misn.

والصنين: بلد: قال: ليت شعري متى تخب بي الناقة ... بين العذيب فالصنين؟

And as-Sanīn: a place. He said: 'I wish I knew when the she-camel would carry me ... between Al-'Udhayb and As-Sanīn?'
