حَتَّى إِذَا قَضَوْا لَبَانَاتِ الشَّجَنِ، ... وكُلَّ حَاجٍ لِفُلانٍ أَوْ لَهُنَّ

Until they fulfilled the needs of the desirous, ... and every need for so-and-so or for them.

وشَجَنَتْهُ الحَاجَةُ تَشْجُنُهُ شَجْناً: حَبَسَتْهُ

And need detained him, holding him back.

وَمَا شَجَنَكَ عَنَّا أَيْ مَا حَبَسَكَ

And what detained you from us? meaning what held you back.

وَقَدْ أَشْجَنَنِي الأَمْرُ فَشَجِنْتُ أَشْجَنُ شُجُوناً.

And the matter caused me sorrow, so I felt sorrow and grieved.

والشَّجَنَةُ والشَّجْنَةُ والشَّجْنَةُ والشَّجْنَةُ: الغُصْنُ المُشْتَبِكُ.

And al-shajanah, al-shajnah, al-shajnah, and al-shajnah: the entangled branch.

وبَيْنِي وبَيْنَهُ شَجْنَةُ رَحِمٍ وشَجْنَةُ رَحِمٍ أَيْ قَرَابَةٌ مُشْتَبِكَةٌ.

And between me and him is a shajanat rahim, meaning intertwined kinship.

والحَدِيثُ ذُو شُجُونٍ أَيْ فُنُونٌ وأَغْرَاضٌ،

فَقَالَ: الحَدِيثُ ذُو شُجُونٍ، ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ بِهِ الحَرْتَ فَقَتَلَهُ

فَلا تَأْمَنَنَّ الحَرْبَ، إِنِ اسْتَعَارَهَا ... كَضَبَّةَ إِذْ قَالَ: الحَدِيثُ شُجُونُ

So do not feel safe from war, if it ignites... like Dabba when he said: The conversation has branches.

والشَّجْنَةُ والشَّجْنَةُ: الرَّحِمُ المُشْتَبِكَةُ.

And al-shajanah and al-shajnah: the intertwined kinship.

فِي الحَدِيثِ: الرَّحِمُ شِجْنَةٌ مِنَ اللهِ مُعَلَّقَةٌ بِالعَرْشِ تَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ صِلْ مَنْ وَصَلَنِي واقْطَعْ مَنْ قَطَعَنِي

In the hadith: The womb is a shijnah from Allah, hanging from the Throne, saying: O Allah, connect those who connect me and cut off those who cut me off.

أَمِنْ دِمَنٍ، بِشَاجِنَةِ الحَجُونِ، ... عَفَتْ مِنْهَا المَنَازِلُ مُنْذُ حِينٍ

Are these from ruins, in the valley of Al-Hajoon, ... from which the dwellings have been erased since a while ago?

فَضَارِبَ الضَّبَّةَ وَذِي الشُّجُونِ

So strike Dabba and the one with diverse affairs.

وكَرِبَ بْنُ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ شَجَنَةَ لَمْ يَدَعْ ... مِنْ دَارِمٍ أَحَداً، وَلا مِنْ نَهْشَلٍ.
