And I made sleeves for the shirt and I 'radantuhu' (made sleeves for it) 'tardinan': I made sleeves for it, and in Al-Muhkam: I made sleeves for it.

قال قيس بن الخطيم الأنصاري: وعمرة من سروات النساء ... تنفح بالمسك أردانها

Qais bin Al-Khatim Al-Ansari said: And 'Umrah, from the noble women... her sleeves exude musk.

والأردن: ضرب من الخز الأحمر.

And Al-Urdun: a type of red silk.

And Al-radan, with harakah: silk, and it is said: fine cloth, and it is said: silk.

Adi bin Zaid said: And I amuse myself with a young gazelle, ... its touch is softer than the touch of silk.

وقال الليث في تفسير البيت: الردن الخز الأصفر، والردن الغزل يفتل إلى قدام، وقيل: هو الغزل المنكوس.

Al-Laith said in explanation of the verse: Al-radan is yellow silk, and Al-radan is thread spun forward, and it is said: it is inverted thread.

وثوب مردون: منسوج بالغزل المردون.

And a 'mardon' garment: woven with 'mardon' thread.

والمردن: المغزل الذي يغزل به الردن.

And Al-mardan: the spindle with which 'al-radan' is spun.

والمردن: المظلم.

And Al-mardan: the dark.

وليل مردن: مظلم.

And a 'mardon' night: dark.

وعرق مردن ومردون: قد نمس الجسد كله؛

And a 'mardan' and 'mardon' vein: has numbed the entire body;

فإن بعضهم قال: أراد بالمردون المردوم، فأبدل من الميم نونا.

For some of them said: he intended 'al-mardum' by 'al-mardun', and substituted 'nun' for 'mim'.

وقال شمر: المردون المنسوج، قال: والردن الغزل، أراد بقوله في مسربخ مردون الأرض التي فيها السراب، وقيل: الردن الغزل الذي ليس بمستقيم.

And Shammir said: Al-mardon is woven, he said: and Al-radan is thread, he meant by his saying 'masrabakh mardon' the land with mirages, and it is said: Al-radan is thread that is not straight.

وأردنت الحمى: مثل أردمت.

And the fever 'ardanat': like 'ardamat' (subsided).

وقال الفراء: ردن جلده، بالكسر، يردن ردنا إذا تقبض وتشنج.

And Al-Farra' said: his skin 'radana', with kasr, 'yurdinu radanan' if it contracted and shriveled.

وجمل رادني؛ جعد الوبر كريم جميل يضرب إلى السواد قليلا.

And a 'radani' camel; curly wool, noble, beautiful, tending slightly to blackness.

والرادني أيضا من الإبل: الشديد الحمرة؛

And Al-radani also among camels: intensely red;

إذا خالط حمرة البعير صفرة كالورس قيل أحمر رادني وبعير رادني، وناقة رادنية إذا خالطت حمرتها صفرة كالورس.

If the camel's redness is mixed with yellowness like saffron, it is called 'ahmar radani' and a 'radani' camel, and a 'radaniyah' she-camel if her redness is mixed with yellowness like saffron.

والردن: الغرس الذي يخرج مع الولد في بطن أمه.

And Al-radan: the membrane that emerges with the child in its mother's womb.

تقول العرب: هذا مدرع الردن.

The Arabs say: this is 'madr' al-radan' (wearing the membrane).

وردنت المتاع ردنا: نضدته.

And I 'radantu' the goods 'radanan': I stacked them.

والردن: صوت وقع السلاح بعضه على بعض.

Al-Jauhari: Al-Qanah Al-Rudayniyyah and Al-Rumh Al-Rudayniyy are claimed to be attributed to a woman of Al-Simhari, named Rudaynah, and they used to straighten spears in the region of Hajar.

قال: وفي كلام بعضهم خطية ردن ورماح لدن.

He said: And in the speech of some of them is 'khattiyyah radan' and 'rumah ladan'.

والرادن: الزعفران؛ وينشد للأغلب:

And Al-radin: saffron; and it is recited for Al-Aghlab:

وأخذت من رادن وكركم

And I took from saffron and turmeric.

ابن السكيت: الأردن النعاس الغالب، بالضم والتشديد؛

Ibn Al-Sikkit: Al-Urdunn is overpowering drowsiness, with dammah and shaddah;

قال الجوهري: ولم يسمع منه فعل.

Al-Jauhari said: And no verb form was heard from it.

ونعسة أردن: شديدة؛ قال أباق الدبيري:

And an 'ardann' nap: intense; Abaqa Al-Dubayri said:

قد أخذتني نعسة أردن، ... وموهب مبز بها مصن .

An overpowering nap has taken me, ... and 'Mawhib' is strong against it, enduring.

يقول: إن موهبا صبور على دفع النوم وإن كان شديد النعاس؛ قال: وبه سمي الأردن البلد.

He says: 'Mawhib' is patient in warding off sleep even if he is very sleepy; he said: And by this, the country of Al-Urdunn was named.

والأردن: أحد أجناد الشام، وبعضهم يخففها.

And Al-Urdunn: one of the provinces of Al-Sham, and some of them pronounce it with a lighter stress.

التهذيب: الأردن أرض بالشام.

Al-Tahdhib: Al-Urdunn is a land in Al-Sham.

الجوهري: الأردن اسم نهر وكورة بأعلى الشام، والله أعلم.
