أصل ذلك أن رجلا ضاف قوما فاستسقاهم لبنا، وعندهم لبن قد حقنوه في وطب، فاعتلوا عليه واعتذروا
The origin of that is that a man was a guest of some people and asked them for milk, and they had milk that they had retained in a milk-skin, so they made excuses to him.
فقال أبى الحقين العذرة أي أن هذا الحقين يكذبكم
So he said, 'The retained (milk) refused the excuse,' meaning, 'This retained milk contradicts your excuses.'

وحقن البول يحقنه ويحقنه: حبسه
And he held back urine, retaining it: he held it back.
ولا يقال أحقنه ولا حقنني هو
And one does not say 'aḥqanahu' (he made me retain) or 'ḥaqananī' (he retained me).
وبعير محقان: يحقن البول، فإذا بال أكثر
And a camel that retains urine: it holds back urine, and when it urinates, it does so more.
لا رأي لحاقب ولا حاقن
There is no opinion for one holding back feces nor for one holding back urine.
فالحاقن في البول، والحاقب في الغائط، والحاقن الذي له بول شديد
So the 'ḥāqin' is in urine, the 'ḥāqib' is in feces, and the 'ḥāqin' is one who has a severe need for urine.
لا يصلين أحدكم وهو حاقن
Let none of you pray while he is holding back urine.
وهو حقن، حتى يتخفف الحاقن والحقن سواء
And he is holding back urine, until he relieves himself; the one holding back and the retention are the same.
والحقنة: دواء يحقن به المريض المحتقن
And the enema: medicine with which the patient who needs an enema is treated.
أنه كره الحقنة
That he disliked the enema.
هي أن يعطى المريض الدواء من أسفله وهي معروفة عند الأطباء
It is that the patient is given medicine from below, and it is known among physicians.
والحاقنة: المعدة صفة غالبة لأنها تحقن الطعام

كلما ملأت شيئا أو دسسته فيه فقد حقنته
Whatever you fill something with or insert into it, you have retained it.

والحاقنة: ما بين الترقوة والعنق
And the 'ḥāqinah': what is between the collarbone and the neck.
وقيل: الحاقنتان ما بين الترقوتين وحبلي العاتق
And it was said: the two 'ḥāqintān' are what is between the two collarbones and the cords of the shoulder.
وفي التهذيب: نقرتا الترقوتين، والجمع الحواقن
And in Al-Tahdhib: the two depressions of the collarbones, and the plural is 'al-ḥawāqin'.
وفي الصحاح: الحاقنة النقرة التي بين الترقوة وحبل العاتق، وهما حاقنتان
And in Al-Siḥāḥ: the 'ḥāqinah' is the depression between the collarbone and the cord of the shoulder, and they are two 'ḥāqintān'.
لألصقن حواقنك بذواقنك
I will stick your 'ḥawāqin' to your 'dhawāqin'.
حواقنه: ما حقن الطعام من بطنه، وذواقنه: أسفل بطنه وركبتاه
His 'ḥawāqin': what retains food from his belly, and his 'dhawāqin': his lower belly and knees.
وقال بعضهم: الحواقن ما سفل من البطن، والذواقن ما علا
And some of them said: the 'ḥawāqin' is what is low in the belly, and the 'dhawāqin' is what is high.
ويقال الحاقنتان الهزمتان تحت الترقوتين
And it is said the two 'ḥāqintān' are the hollows beneath the collarbones.
وروي عن ابن الأعرابي الحاقنة المعدة، والذاقنة الذقن
And it was narrated from Ibn Al-A'rabi: the 'ḥāqinah' is the stomach, and the 'dhāqinah' is the chin.
وقيل: الذاقنة طرف الحلقوم
And it was said: the 'dhāqinah' is the tip of the throat.
توفي رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، بين سحري ونحري، وبين حاقنتي وذاقنتي وبين شجري
The Messenger of God, peace be upon him, died between my chest and my chest, and between my two 'ḥāqintān' and my 'dhāqinah', and between my 'shajar'.
وهو ما بين اللحيين
And it is what is between the two jaws.
الأزهري: الحاقنة الوهدة المنخفضة بين الترقوتين من الحلق
Al-Azhari: The 'ḥāqinah' is the low depression between the collarbones of the throat.
والحقنة وجع يكون في البطن، والجمع أحقال وأحقان
And 'ḥuqnah' is a pain that occurs in the belly, and the plural is 'aḥqāl' and 'aḥqān'.
وحقن دم الرجل: حل به القتل فأنقذه
And he spared a man's blood: killing became permissible for him, so he saved him.
واحتقن الدم: اجتمع في الجوف
And blood accumulated: it gathered in the interior.
وحقن الله دمه حبسه في جلده وملأه به
And God retained his blood, holding it in his skin and filling him with it.
جردا تحقنت النجيل، كأنما ... بجلودهن مدارج الأنبار

إذا اجتمع الدم في الجوف من طعنة جائفة تقول احتقن الدم في جوفه
If blood gathers in the interior from a deep wound, you say the blood has accumulated in his interior.
فحقن له دمه
So his blood was spared for him.
يقال: حقنت له دمه إذا منعت من قتله وإراقته أي جمعته له وحبسته عليه
It is said: 'He spared his blood' if he prevented his killing and bloodshed, meaning he gathered it for him and held it back for him.
وحقنت دمه: منعت أن يسفك
And he retained his blood: he prevented it from being shed.
والمحتقن من الضروع الواسع الفسيح، وهو أحسنها قدرا، كأنما هو قلت مجتمع متصعد حسن، وإنها لمحتقنة الضرع
And the 'muḥtaqin' of udders is wide and spacious, and it is the best in measure, as if it were a well-formed, rising collection, and indeed it is an udder that has retained (milk).
وحقن اللبن في السقاء يحقنه حقنا صبه فيه ليخرج زبدته
And he retained milk in the skin, retaining it, pouring it in to extract its butter.
والحقين: اللبن الذي قد حقن في السقاء، حقنته أحقنه، بالضم: جمعته في السقاء وصببت حليبه على رائبه، واسم هذا اللبن الحقين
And the 'ḥaqīn': the milk that has been retained in the skin; I retained it, I retain it (with dammah): I gathered it in the skin and poured its milk over its curdled milk, and the name of this milk is 'al-ḥaqīn'.
والمحقن: الذي يجعل في فم السقاء والزق ثم يصب فيه الشراب أو الماء
And the funnel: that which is placed in the mouth of the skin and the waterskin, then the drink or water is poured into it.
قال الأزهري: المحقن القمع الذي يحقن به اللبن في السقاء، ويجوز أن يقال للسقاء نفسه محقن، كما يقال له مصرب ومجزم، قال: وكل ذلك محفوظ عن العرب
Al-Azhari said: The 'miḥqan' is the funnel with which milk is poured into the skin, and it is permissible to call the skin itself a 'miḥqan', just as it is called 'miṣrab' and 'mijzam', he said: And all of that is preserved from the Arabs.
واحتقنت الروضة: أشرفت جوانبها على سرارها؛ عن أبي حنيفة
And the meadow 'iḥtaqanat': its sides overlooked its center; according to Abu Hanifa.
