Ibn Burri said: The poem is by al-Khatim al-Dababbi. And the correct recitation of it in full is as he said: Do not give him to drink sour milk or milk, ... if you do not find him a swift runner, a galloper, energetic and devouring the ground, leaving the hard stones ridden, with slipping hooves that dig in, leaving behind him a blaze, hastening to catch up with those pursued before they return, and the horizon of the sun to set, like a wolf following closely with greed,

وفي حديث أنس: جئت إلى النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، وعليه بردة جونية ؛

And in the hadith of Anas: I came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and he was wearing a Jawnite cloak;

والجونية: غتماء لا تفصح بصوتها إذا صاحت إنما تغرغر بصوت في حلقها.

And Al-Juniyyah: a mute one that does not articulate its voice when it cries out, it only gurgles with a sound in its throat.

قال أبو حاتم: ووجدت بخط الأصمعي عن العرب: قطا جؤني، مهموز؛

Abu Hatim said: And I found in Al-Asma'i's handwriting from the Arabs: sandgrouse J'uniyy, hamzated;

والجونة: جونة العطار، وربما همز، والجمع جون، بفتح الواو؛

والجونان: معاوية وحسان بن الجون الكنديان؛

And Al-Junayn: Mu'awiyah and Hassan bin al-Jawn al-Kindian;

وإياهما عنى جرير بقوله: ألم تشهد الجونين والشعب والغضى، ... وشدات قيس، يوم دير الجماجم؟

And Jarir meant them both with his saying: Did you not witness Al-Junayn, the valley, and the thorny bushes, ... and the onslaughts of Qays, on the day of Dayr al-Jamajim?
