And in Al-Tahdhib and Al-Nihayah: muthadun al-yad, meaning small and gathered of hand,

وإن كان كما قيل إنه من الثندوة تشبيها له به في القصر والاجتماع، فالقياس أن يقال مثند، إلا أن يكون مقلوبا،

And it is narrated: muttan al-yad, with a ta, from 'aytanat al-mar'ah if she gives birth to a yatan, which is when the child comes out feet first,

يريد أنه يشبه ثندوة الثدي، وهي رأسه، فقدم الدال على النون مثل جذب وجبذ،

meaning it resembles the thunduwah of the breast, which is its tip, so the dal is placed before the nun like in 'jadhab' and 'jabhadh'.
