And the Arabs used to claim that the soul of a slain person who had not had their vengeance taken would become a 'hamah' and cry out at their grave, saying: 'Give me drink, give me drink!' and when their vengeance was taken, it would fly away;
فإن تك هامة بهراة تزقو، ... فقد أزقيت بالمروين هاما
If a 'hamah' is crying out in Herat, ... then I have caused a 'hamah' to cry out in Marw.
ومن قول ذي الإصبع: يا عمرو، إن لا تدع شتمي ومنقصتي، ... أضربك حتى تقول الهامة: اسقوني

Meaning, are you from its nobles or from its middle ranks? So he likened the nobles to the 'haam', which is the plural of the 'hamah' of the head.

And the 'hamah' from the birds of the night: a small bird that frequents graves, and it is said: it is the 'sada', and the plural is 'haam';

هكذا جاء في رواية والمشهور هزم الأرض، بالزاي، وقد تقدم؛
Thus it came in the narration, and the famous is 'hazm al-ard' (with a zayn), and it has been mentioned before;
وقال الخطابي: لست أدري ما هوم الأرض، وقال غيره: هوم الأرض بطن منها في بعض اللغات.
And Al-Khattabi said: I do not know what 'hawm al-ard' is, and others said: 'hawm al-ard' is a hollow in it in some languages.

فأجابه رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، بنحو من صوته: هاؤم ، بمعنى تعال وبمعنى خذ،
And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, answered him in a voice similar to his: 'Ha'um', meaning 'come' and meaning 'take',
