كَظَمَ الرجلُ غيظَه إذا اجترعه.
The man suppressed his anger when he swallowed it.
كَظَمَه يكظمه كظما: رده وحبسه، فهو رجل كظيم، والغيظ مكظوم.
He suppressed it, he suppressed it, with suppression: he returned it and held it back, so he is a man who suppresses (his anger), and the anger is suppressed.
والكاظمين الغيظ ؛ فسره ثعلب فقال: يعني الحابسين الغيظ لا يجازون عليه
And those who suppress anger; Tha'lab explained it, saying: meaning those who hold back anger and do not retaliate for it.
يعني الحابسين الغيظ لا يجازون عليه
Meaning those who hold back anger and do not retaliate for it.
أعدت الجنة للذين جرى ذكرهم وللذين يكظمون الغيظ.
Paradise has been prepared for those who were mentioned and for those who suppress anger.
ما من جرعة يتجرعها الإنسان أعظم أجرا من جرعة غيظ في الله عز وجل.
There is no gulp that a person swallows that is greater in reward than a gulp of anger for the sake of Allah, the Almighty.
ويقال: كظمت الغيظ أكظمه كظما إذا أمسكت على ما في نفسك منه.
And it is said: I suppressed the anger, I suppress it, with suppression, if you hold back what is in your soul of it.
من كظم غيظا فله كذا وكذا ؛ كظم الغيظ: تجرعه واحتمال سببه والصبر عليه.
Whoever suppresses anger, he shall have such and such; suppressing anger: swallowing it, enduring its cause, and being patient with it.
إذا تثاءب أحدكم فليكظم ما استطاع أي ليحبسه مهما أمكنه.
If one of you yawns, let him suppress it as much as he can, meaning let him hold it back as much as possible.
له فخر يكظم عليه أي لا يبديه ويظهره، وهو حسبه.
He has a pride that he suppresses, meaning he does not reveal or show it, and it is sufficient for him.
ويقال: كظم البعير على جرته إذا رددها في حلقه.
And it is said: The camel held back its cud when it returned it to its throat.
كظم البعير يكظم كظوما إذا أمسك عن الجرة، فهو كاظم.
The camel held back, it held back, with holding back, if it refrained from its cud, so it is a suppressor (of cud).
فأفضن بعد كظومهن بجرة ... من ذي الأبارق، إذ رعين حقيلا
Then they let out after their holding back their cud... from Dhi al-Abariq, when they grazed on Haqil.
أي دفعت الإبل بجرتها بعد كظومها، قال: والكاظم منها العطشان اليابس الجوف
Meaning the camels pushed out their cud after holding it back, he said: And the one holding back among them is the thirsty one with a dry belly.
كظم البعير جرته ازذردها وكف عن الاجترار.
The camel swallowed its cud; it swallowed it and refrained from ruminating.
فهن كظوم ما يفضن بجرة، ... لهن بمستن اللغام صريف
So they are non-ruminating, they do not let out their cud, ... they have a sound in the moistness of their mouths.
والكظم: مخرج النفس.
And the kazm: the exit of the breath.
يقال: كظمني فلان وأخذ بكظمي.
It is said: So-and-so choked me and took me by my kazm.
أخذت بكظام الأمر أي بالثقة، وأخذ بكظمه أي بحلقه؛ عن ابن الأعرابي.
I took hold of the kazam of the matter, meaning the confidence, and he took hold of his kazam, meaning his throat; from Ibn al-A'rabi.
وأخذت بكظمه أي بمخرج نفسه، والجمع كظام.
And I took hold of his kazam, meaning his exit of breath, and the plural is kizam.
لعل الله يصلح أمر هذه الأمة ولا يؤخذ بأكظامها ؛ هي جمع كظم، بالتحريك، وهو مخرج النفس من الحلق؛
Perhaps Allah will reform the affairs of this nation and it will not be seized by its akzam; it is the plural of kazm, with vowelization, which is the exit of the breath from the throat;
له التوبة ما لم يؤخذ بكظمه أي عند خروج نفسه وانقطاع نفسه.
He has repentance as long as he is not seized by his kazam, meaning at the exit of his soul and the cessation of his breath.
وأخذ الأمر بكظمه إذا غمه؛
And he took hold of the matter with its kazam when it distressed him;
وكل امرئ يوما إلى الله صائر ... قضاء، إذا ما كان يؤخذ بالكظم
And every person one day will return to Allah... a decree, when he is taken by the kazm.
ورجل مكظوم وكظيم: مكروب قد أخذ الغم بكظمه.
And a man who is suppressed and a kazeem: distressed, grief has taken hold of his throat.
ظل وجهه مسودا وهو كظيم*
His face became darkened, and he was suppressed (with grief)*
والكظوم: السكوت.
And al-kuzoom: silence.
وقوم كظم أي ساكنون؛
And a people kizam, meaning silent;
ورب أسراب حجيج كظم ... عن اللغا، ورفث التكلم
And perhaps flocks of silent pilgrims... refraining from idle talk and coarse speech.
وفلان لا يكظم على جرته أي لا يسكت على ما في جوفه حتى يتكلم به؛
And so-and-so does not suppress his cud, meaning he does not remain silent about what is in his stomach until he speaks it;
كظيم الحجل واضحة المحيا، ... عديلة حسن خلق في تمام
Her anklets are suppressed (silent), her face is clear, ... a match for good character in perfection.
والكظيم: غلق الباب.
And al-kazim: closing the door.
وكظم الباب يكظمه كظما: قام عليه فأغلقه بنفسه أو بغير نفسه.
And he closed the door, he closed it, with closing: he stood over it and closed it himself or with something other than himself.
كظمت الباب أكظمه إذا قمت عليه فسددته بنفسك أو سددته بشيء غيرك.
I sealed the door, I seal it, if you stand over it and block it yourself or block it with something other than yourself.
وكل ما سد من مجرى ماء أو باب أو طريق كظم، كأنه سمي بالمصدر.
And everything that blocks a watercourse, a door, or a road is a kazm, as if it were named by the masdar.
والكظامة والسدادة: ما سد به.
And the kazamah and the saddadah: what it is blocked with.
والكظامة: القناة التي تكون في حوائط الأعناب، وقيل: الكظامة ركايا الكرم وقد أفضى بعضها إلى بعض وتناسقت كأنها نهر.
And the kazamah: the channel that is in the walls of vineyards, and it is said: the kazamah are wells of the vineyard, and some of them lead to others and are aligned as if they were a river.
وكظموا الكظامة: جدروها بجدرين، والجدر طين حافتها، وقيل: الكظامة بئر إلى جنبها بئر، وبينهما مجرى في بطن الوادي،
And they channeled the kazamah: they lined it with two walls, and the lining is mud on its edge, and it is said: the kazamah is a well next to a well, and between them is a channel in the belly of the valley,
بطن الأرض أينما كانت، وهي الكظيمة.
The belly of the earth wherever it may be, and it is the kazimah.
والكظامة قناة في باطن الأرض يجري فيها الماء.
And the kazamah is a channel in the earth's interior through which water flows.
أن النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، أتى كظامة قوم فتوضأ منها ومسح على خفيه ؛
That the Prophet, peace be upon him, came to a kazamah of a people and performed ablution from it and wiped over his boots;
الكظامة: كالقناة، وجمعها كظائم.
The kazamah: like a channel, and its plural is kazaim.
هي آبار متناسقة تحفر ويباعد ما بينها، ثم يخرق ما بين كل بئرين بقناة تؤدي الماء من الأولى إلى التي تليها تحت الأرض فتجتمع مياهها جارية، ثم تخرج عند منتهاها فتسح على وجه الأرض،
They are aligned wells that are dug with space between them, then a channel is made between every two wells, leading water from the first to the next underground, so their waters gather flowing, then they emerge at their end and flow onto the surface of the earth,
حتى يجتمع الماء إلى آخرهن، وإنما ذلك من عوز الماء ليبقى في كل بئر ما يحتاج إليه أهلها للشرب وسقي الأرض، ثم يخرج فضلها إلى التي تليها، فهذا معروف عند أهل الحجاز، وقيل: الكظامة السقاية.
Until the water gathers at the last of them, and this is due to scarcity of water so that each well retains what its people need for drinking and watering the land, then its excess flows to the next one, and this is known among the people of Hijaz, and it is said: the kazamah is the watering place.
إذا رأيت مكة قد بعجت كظائم وساوى بناؤها رؤوس الجبال فاعلم أن الأمر قد أظلك ؛
When you see Mecca with its kazaim dug out and its buildings level with the mountain tops, know that the matter has overshadowed you;
هي الكظيمة والكظامة معناه أي حفرت قنوات.
It is al-kazimah and al-kazamah, meaning canals have been dug.
أنه أتى كظامة قوم فبال ؛
That he came to a kazamah of a people and urinated;
وقيل أراد بالكظامة في هذا الحديث الكناسة.
And it is said that by kazamah in this hadith, he meant the rubbish heap.
والكظامة من المرأة: مخرج البول.
And the kazamah from a woman: the exit of urine.
والكظامة: فم الوادي الذي يخرج منه الماء؛
And the kazamah: the mouth of the valley from which water emerges;
والكظامة: أعلى الوادي بحيث ينقطع
And the kazamah: the upper part of the valley where it ends.
والكظامة: سير يوصل بطرف القوس العربية ثم يدار بطرف السية العليا.
And the kazamah: a strap that is connected to the tip of an Arab bow and then wrapped around the upper tip.
والكظامة: سير مضفور موصول بوتر القوس العربية ثم يدار بطرف السية.
And the kazamah: a braided strap connected to the string of an Arab bow and then wrapped around the tip.
والكظامة: حبل يكظمون به خطم البعير.
And the kazamah: a rope with which they tie the camel's nose.
والكظامة: العقب الذي على رؤوس القذذ العليا من السهم، وقيل: ما يلي حقو السهم، وهو مستدقه مما يلي الريش، وقيل: هو موضع الريش؛
And the kazamah: the butt that is on the upper shafts of the arrow, and it is said: what is next to the arrow's shaft, and it is its tapering part next to the fletching, and it is said: it is the place of the fletching;
تشد على حز الكظامة بالكظر
It is tied on the cut of the kazamah with the kazar.
والكظامة العقب الذي يدرج على أذناب الريش يضبطها على أي نحو ما كان التركيب، كلاهما عبر فيه بلفظ الواحد عن الجمع.
And the kazamah is the butt that is wrapped around the ends of the fletching, securing it in whatever way the construction is, both of them used a single word to mean the plural.
والكظامة: حبل يشد به أنف البعير، وقد كظموه بها.
And the kazamah: a rope with which the camel's nose is tied, and they tied it with it.
وكظامة الميزان: مسماره الذي يدور فيه اللسان، وقيل: هي الحلقة التي يجتمع فيها خيوط الميزان في طرفي الحديدة من الميزان.
And the kazamah of the scale: its pin around which the tongue turns, and it is said: it is the ring where the threads of the scale meet at the two ends of the iron of the scale.
إذ هن أقساط كرجل الدبى، ... أو كقطا كاظمة الناهل
When they are in portions like the locusts, ... or like the thirsty one's suppressed (water).
فيا ليت داري بالمدينة أصبحت ... بأعفار فلج، أو بسيف الكواظم
Oh, I wish my house in the city had become... in the dust of Falaj, or by the sword of al-Kawadhim.
فإنه أراد كاظمة وما حولها فجمع لذلك.
For he intended Kazimah and its surroundings, so he pluralized it.
وكاظمة جو على سيف البحر من البصرة على مرحلتين، وفيها ركايا كثيرة وماؤها شروب؛
And Kazimah is a gulf on the coast of the sea, two stages from Basra, and it has many wells and its water is brackish;
ضمنت لكن أن تهجرن نجدا، ... وأن تسكن كاظمة البحور
I guaranteed for you that you would not abandon Najd, ... and that you would inhabit Kazimah of the seas.
وهو اسم موضع، وقيل: بئر عرف الموضع بها.
And it is the name of a place, and it is said: a well by which the place is known.
