Abu Zayd said in his 'Nawadir': Al-muqhim is one who does not eat due to illness or other causes, and it is said: one who does not desire food due to illness or other causes.
وروى ثعلب عن ابن الأعرابي: أقهم فلان إلى الطعام إقهاما إذا اشتهاه، وأقهم عن الطعام إذا لم يشتهه؛
Tha'lab narrated from Ibn al-A'rabi: So-and-so strongly desired food (aqhama) if he craved it, and abstained from food (aqhama) if he did not desire it.
وهو إلى الزاد شديد الإقهام
And he has a strong craving for provisions.
وأقهمت الإبل عن الماء إذا لم ترده؛
And the camels lost their desire for water if they did not want it.
ولو أن لؤم ابني سليمان في الغضى ... أو الصليان، لم تذقه الأباعر أو الحمض لاقورت، أو الماء أقهمت ... عن الماء، حمضياتهن الكناعر
And if the baseness of the sons of Sulayman were in the thorny shrubs... or the saltwort, the camels would not taste it, or the desert plants; or the water, they would abstain from the water, their desert plants being the bitter ones.
من جعل الإقهام شهوة ذهب به إلى الهقم، وهو الجائع، ثم قلبه فقال قهم، ثم بنى الإقهام منه.
He who considers 'iqham' as desire, takes it from 'al-haqim', which means hungry, then he inverted it to say 'qahim', and then derived 'iqham' from it.
وقال أبو حنيفة: أقهمت الحمر عن اليبيس إذا تركته بعد فقدان الرطب،
Abu Hanifa said: The donkeys abandoned dry fodder if they left it after losing access to fresh pasture.
وأقهم الرجل عنك إذا كرهك،
And a man turned away from you if he disliked you.
وأقهمت السماء إذا انقشع الغيم عنها.
And the sky cleared up if the clouds dispersed from it.
