So the last mim in 'qalḥam' is extra for assimilation, just as the second ba' in 'jalbab' was extra for assimilation to 'dahraja'.

وأتي باللام في قلحم لأنه يقال رجل قحل وقحم للمسن

And the lam was brought into 'qalḥam' because it is said 'a man qahl and qahm' for the aged.
