And Abu Amr said: Al-faqm is that the lower jaw is long and the upper is short.
ويقال للرجل إذا أخذ بلحية صاحبه وذقنه: أخذ بفقمه
And one says to a man, if he takes hold of his companion's beard and chin: He has taken hold of his faqmah.
وفقمت الرجل فقما، وهو مفقوم إذا أخدت بفقمه
And I gripped the man's faqmah, and he is mafqum if I took hold of his faqmah.
أبو زيد: بهظته أخذت بفقمه وبفغمه؛ قال شمر: أراد بفقمه فمه وبفغمه أنفه
Abu Zayd: I oppressed him, I took hold of his faqmah and his faghmah; Shamir said: He meant by his faqmah his mouth and by his faghmah his nose.
قال: والفقمان هما اللحيان
He said: And the faqman are the two jaws.
وفي الحديث: من حفظ ما بين فقميه دخل الجنة أي ما بين لحييه
And in the hadith: Whoever guards what is between his two faqmayhi enters Paradise, meaning what is between his two jaws.
والفقم، بالضم: اللحي
And al-fuqm, with dammah: the jaw.
الليث: الفقم ردة في الذقن، والنعت أفقم

والأمر الأفقم: الأعوج المخالف

وأمر متفاقم، وتفاقم الأمر أي عظم
And a mutafaqqim affair, and tafāqama the affair, meaning it became great.
وفقم الأمر فقوما: عظم، وفقم أيضا فقما

وفقم الأمر يفقم فقما وفقوما وتفاقم: لم يجر على استواء، مشتق من ذلك

And the man faqama faqman: he became arrogant, and it is from that because arrogance is a deviation from straightness and evenness; Ru'bah said: You continued to pity him and heal him, ... from his illness, until his faqmah became straight.
التهذيب: وإن قيل فقم الأمر كان صوابا؛ وأنشد: فإن تسمع بلأمهما، ... فإن الأمر قد فقما
Al-Tahdhib: And if it is said 'faqama the affair', it was correct; and he recited: If you hear of their bickering, ... then the affair has indeed faqama.
أبو تراب: سمعت عراما يقول رجل فقم فهم إذا كان يعلو الخصوم، ورجل لقم لهم مثله
Abu Turab: I heard Arram say a man is faqam fahm if he prevails over opponents, and a man is laqam lahum similarly.
