As for 'Ayāham, it is imitated by the author of Al-'Ayn, and he is unknown. He said: I discussed with Abu Ali, may God have mercy on him, one day about this book, and he spoke ill of its praise. I said to him: Is his compilation more sound and excellent than the compilation of Al-Jamhara? He said: Do you see now if a person compiled a good dictionary of the Turkish language, would it be considered Arabic?
وقال كراع: ولا نظير لعياهم، والأنثى عيهم وعيهمة وعيهوم وعيهامة.
And Kra'a said: There is no parallel to 'Ayāham, and the feminine is 'Aiham, 'Aihamah, 'Aihūm, and 'Aihāmah.
وقد عيهمت، وعيهمتها: سرعتها، وجمعها عياهيم؛ قال ذو الرمة:
And I made it swift, and I made it swift: its speed, and its plural is 'Ayāhīm; Dhu al-Rummah said:
هيهات خرقاء، إلا أن يقربها ... ذو العرش والشعشعانات العياهيم
Far away, O foolish one, unless the Lord of the Throne and the swift camels bring her near.
وقيل: العيهامة والعيهمة الطويلة العنق الضخمة الرأس.
And it was said: Al-'Aihāmah and Al-'Aihamah are the long-necked, large-headed ones.
والعياهم: نجائب الإبل.

والعياهم: الشداد من الإبل، الواحد عيهم وعيهوم.

And Al-Bughayt Al-Juhani said, and Al-Bughayt is with a dammah on the ba, a pointed ghayn, and a ta: And we struck Muzaynah a blow, ... the morning we met between Ghayq and 'Aihama.
وقال العجاج: وللشآمين طريق المشئم، ... وللعراقي ثنايا عيهم
And Al-'Ajjāj said: And for the people of Sham is the path of misfortune, ... and for the Iraqis are the passes of 'Aiham.
كأن عيهما اسم جبل بعينه.
As if 'Aihama were the name of a specific mountain.
والعيهمان: الرجل الذي لا يدلج ينام على ظهر الطريق؛
And Al-'Aihamān: the man who does not travel by night, sleeping on the road;
وقد أثير العيهمان الراقدا
And the one sleeping on the road was stirred.
والعيهوم: الأديم الأملس؛ وأنشد لأبي دواد:
And Al-'Aihūm: the smooth leather; and he recited for Abu Dawud:
فتعفت بعد الرباب زمانا، ... فهي قفر، كأنها عيهوم
So it became desolate after Al-Rubab for a time, ... so it is barren, as if it were smooth leather.
وقيل: شبه الدار في دروسها بالعيهم من الإبل، وهو الذي أنضاه السير حتى بلاه كما قال حميد بن ثور:
And it was said: The dwelling was likened in its desolation to a worn-out camel, which is one that travel has exhausted until it became worn out, as Hamid bin Thur said:
عفت مثل ما يعفو الطليح، وأصبحت ... بها كبرياء الصعب، وهي ركوب
It became desolate like the desolation of the fallen, and it became ... with it the pride of the untamed, and it is ridden.
ويقال للعين العذبة: عين عيهم، وللعين المالحة: عين زيغم «1».
And the sweet spring is called: 'Ayn 'Aiham, and the salty spring: 'Ayn Zaygham.
