He says: This word, even if it is not considered an insult, forgiving it is severe.
والتشاتم: التساب.

وقال سيبويه في باب ما جرى مجرى المثل: كل شيء ولا شتيمة حر
And Sibawayh said in the chapter of what is used as a proverb: 'Everything, but not the insult of a free man.'
وشاتمه فشتمه يشتمه: غلبه بالشتم.
And he exchanged insults with him, so he insulted him, he insults him: he overcame him with insult.
ورجل شتامة: كثير الشتم.
And a man who is 'shattamah': is one who insults a lot.
الجوهرى: والشتيم الكريه الوجه، وكذلك الأسد.

يقال: فلان شتيم المحيا، وقد شتم الرجل، بالضم، شتامة؛

And Ibn Barrī recited for Al-Mirar Al-Asadi: 'He gives generously and is not seen, in his face... to his friend, any insult.'
قال: وشاهد شتامة قول الآخر: وهزئن مني أن رأين مويهنا ... تبدو عليه شتامة المملوك
He said: And the evidence for 'shattamah' is the saying of another: 'And they mocked me when they saw my water skin... the ill-temperedness of a slave appears upon it.'
والاشتيام: رئيس الركاب.
And 'al-ishti'aam': is the leader of the caravan.
والشتيم والشتام والشتامة: القبيح الوجه.
And 'al-shateem', 'al-shattaam', and 'al-shataamah': are the ugly of face.
والشتامة أيضا: السيء الخلق.

والشتامة: شدة الخلق مع قبح وجه.
