The emaciated one is he who has withered and dried up, either from illness or from sorrow, does not sleep on the bed, comes and goes, and in his belly is an illness that has dried him up and changed his color.
وَقَدْ اسْلَهَمَّ اسْلِهْماماً
And he wasted away with wasting away.
وَقِيلَ: هُوَ الضَّامِرُ المُضْطَرِبُ مِنْ غَيْرِ مَرَضٍ
And it was said: he is the thin and restless one, not from illness.
الأَصْمَعِيُّ: المُسْهَلِمُ المُتَغَيِّرُ اللَّوْنِ
Al-Asma'i: The emaciated one is the one whose color has changed.
وَقَالَ اللَّيْثُ: هُوَ الَّذِي بَرَاهُ المَرَضُ وَالدَّؤُوبُ فَصَارَ كَأَنَّهُ مَسْلُولٌ
And Al-Layth said: he is the one whom illness and constant effort have worn down, so he became as if consumed.
وَقَالَ الجَوْهَرِيُّ فِي مَوْضِعٍ آخَرَ: اسْلَهَمَّ الشَّيْءُ اسْلِهْماماً أَيْ تَغَيَّرَ رِيحُهُ
And Al-Jawhari said in another place: something changed smell, meaning its smell changed.
وَسُلْهِمٌ، بِالكَسْرِ: اسْمُ رَجُلٍ
And Sulham, with kasra: is the name of a man.
وَقَالَ ابْنُ بَرِّيٍّ: سُلْهِمٌ حَيٌّ مِنْ مَذْحِجٍ
And Ibn Barrī said: Sulham is a tribe from Madhhij.
