والزَّهْدَمَان: أخوان من بني عبس؛ قال ابن الكلبي: هما زهدم وقيس ابنا حزن بن وهب بن عوير بن رواحة بن ربيعة بن مازن بن الحرث بن قطيعة بن عبس بن بغيض، وهما اللذان أدركا حاجب بن زرارة يوم جبلة ليأسراه فغلبهما عليه مالك ذو الرقيبة القشيري؛ وفيهما يقول قيس بن زهير: جزاني الزهدمان جزاء سوء، ... وكنت المرء يجزى بالكرامه
And Al-Zahdaman: two brothers from Banu Abs; Ibn al-Kalbi said: They are Zahdam and Qais, sons of Hazn bin Wahb bin Uwayr bin Rawaha bin Rabi'ah bin Mazin bin Al-Harith bin Qati'ah bin Abs bin Baghid, and they are the ones who overtook Hajib bin Zurarah on the day of Jabalah to capture him, but Malik Dhu al-Ruqaybah al-Qushairi overcame them regarding him; and about them, Qais bin Zuhair says: Al-Zahdaman rewarded me with an evil reward, ... and I was the one who was rewarded with honor.
قال أبو عبيدة: هما زهدم وكردم؛ قال ابن بري في الزهدمان: قال أبو عبيد ابنا جزء، وقال علي بن حمزة: ابنا حزن.
Abu Ubaidah said: They are Zahdam and Kardam; Ibn al-Barri said about Al-Zahdaman: Abu Ubaid said, sons of Juz', and Ali bin Hamzah said, sons of Hazn.
وزَهْدَم: من أسماء الأسد.
And Zahdam: from the names of the lion.
