قال الأصمعي: مرخوم ألقيت عليه رخمة أمه أي حبها له وألفتها إياه
Al-Asma'i said: 'Marghum' is one upon whom his mother's affection has been cast, meaning her love for him and her familiarity with him.
وزعم أبو زيد الأنصاري أن من أهل اليمن من يقول رخمته رخمة بمعنى رحمته
Abu Zayd al-Ansari claimed that some people from Yemen say 'rakhamtuhu rakmah' meaning 'rahimtuhu'.
ويقال: ألقى الله عليك رخمة فلان أي عطفه ورقته
And it is said: May God cast upon you the affection of so-and-so, meaning his compassion and tenderness.
قال اللحياني: وسمعت أعرابيا يقول: هو راخم له
Al-Lihyani said: I heard a Bedouin say: He is affectionate towards him.
وفي نوادر الأعراب: مرة ترخم صبيها «2»
And in the 'Nawadir al-A'rab': Once she showed mercy to her child.
وعلى صبيها وترخمه وتربخه وتربخ عليه إذا رحمته
And upon her child, and showing mercy to him, and showing mercy to him, and showing mercy upon him if you showed mercy to him.
وارتخمت الناقة فصيلها إذا رئمته

ورخمت الجارية رخامة، فهي رخيمة الصوت ورخيم إذا كانت سهلة المنطق؛ قال قيس بن ذريح: ربعا لواضحة الجبين غريرة، ... كالشمس إذ طلعت، رخيم المنطق
And the girl's voice became soft ('rakhama'), so she is 'rakhimat al-sawt' and 'rakhim' if she is easy in speech; Qays bin Dhurayh said: A young gazelle with a clear forehead, ... like the sun when it rose, pleasant in speech.
وقد رخم كلامها وصوتها، وكذلك رخم

And it was said: 'Tarkhim' is elision; and from it is the elision of a name in calling, which is to omit a letter or more from its end, like when you call 'Harith': 'Ya Har', and 'Malik': 'Ya Mal', it is called 'tarkhim' to soften the caller's voice by omitting the letter; Al-Asma'i said: Al-Khalil took from me the meaning of 'tarkhim' when he met me and said to me: What do the Arabs call easy speech? I said to him: The Arabs say a girl is 'rakhimah' if she is easy in speech; so he based the chapter on 'tarkhim' on this.

And 'al-rukhama': a type of 'khalafa'; Abu Hanifa said: it is a greenish-green with a pure white flower, and it has a white root that wild asses dig up with their hooves, and all wild animals eat that root for its sweetness and pleasantness. He said: Some narrators said it grows in the sand and is of the 'jinnabah' type; 'Ubayd said: Or a young ram digging the 'rukhama' ... the north wind blows it away.
والرخاء: الريح اللينة، وهي الرخامى أيضا
And 'rakhaa': the gentle wind, and it is also 'rukhama'.
والرخامى: نبت تجذبه السائمة، وهي بقلة غبراء تضرب إلى البياض، وهي حلوة لها أصل أبيض كأنه العنقر، إذا انتزع حلب لبنا، وقيل: هو شجر مثل الضال؛ قال الكميت: تعاطى فراخ المكر طورا، وتارة ... تثير رخاماه وتعلق ضالها
And 'al-rukhama': a plant that grazing animals pull at, it is a greenish-green herb tending towards white, and it is sweet with a white root like 'al-'anqar', if pulled, it yields milk. It was said: it is a tree like the 'dal'; Al-Kumait said: It reaches for the young of the 'makr' sometimes, and at other times ... it stirs its 'rukhama' and clings to its 'dal'.
وقال إمرؤ القيس في الرخامى، وهو نبت، يصف فرسا: إذا نحن قدناه تأود متنه، ... كعرق الرخامى اللدن في الهطلان
And Imru' al-Qays said about 'al-rukhama', which is a plant, describing a horse: When we led him, his back swayed, ... like a supple root of 'al-rukhama' in the rain.
والرخامة، بالهاء: نبت؛ حكاه أبو حنيفة
And 'rakhama', with the 'ha': a plant; Abu Hanifa narrated it.
ابن الأعرابي: والرخم اللبن الغليظ، وقال في موضع آخر: الرخم كتل اللبإ

And in the hadith of Al-Sha'bi: He mentioned the Rafidah and said, 'If they were birds, they would be 'rakham'.' 'Al-rakham': a type of bird, its singular is 'rakhmah', and it is described by treachery and impurity, and it is said to be dirty; and from it is their saying: 'rakhama al-siqa'' when it becomes putrid.
