And al-ad'am: the bridle for its blackness, and it is al-adaham; they broke it down like nouns even though it was originally an adjective because it became dominant like a noun.
إذا كان القيد من خشب فهو الأدهم والفلق.
If the bridle is made of wood, it is al-ad'am and al-falq.

A dark-colored she-camel and a black, unblemished horse if it is black without any markings.

And the new footprint is al-dahmaa', and the old, worn-out one is al-ghabraa'.
أثر أدهم جديد، وأثر أغبر قديم دارس.
A new, dark footprint, and an old, worn-out, dusty footprint.
والدهماء: ليلة تسع وعشرين.
And al-dahmaa': the twenty-ninth night.
والدهم ثلاث ليال من الشهر لأنها دهم.
And al-dahm: three nights of the month because they are dahm (dark/overwhelming).
لم يمنع ضوء نورها ادهمام سجف الليل المظلم
The light of its radiance did not prevent the blackness of the dark curtain of night.
والادهيمام: مصدر ادهام كالاحمرار والاحميرار في احمر واحمار.
And al-idhimam: the masdar of idhamma, like al-iḥmirār and al-iḥmirār in aḥmar and iḥmār.
والدهماء من الضأن: الحمراء الخالصة الحمرة.
And al-dahmaa' from sheep: pure red.
وقد دهمونا أي جاؤونا بمرة جماعة.
And they dahamuna, meaning they came to us as a large group.
ودهمهم أمر إذا غشيهم فاشيا
And an أمر (matter) dahamahum if it overwhelmed them, spreading.
اللهم اغفر لي من قبل أن يدهمك الناس أي يكثروا عليك
O Allah, forgive me before people overwhelm you, meaning they become numerous upon you.
وأنتم الدهم، أن يغلب كل عشرة منكم واحدا منهم أي وأنتم العدد الكثير
And you are al-dahm, that each ten of you can overcome one of them, meaning you are the numerous ones.
وجيش دهم أي كثير.
And a dahm army, meaning numerous.
وجاءهم دهم من الناس أي كثير.
And a dahm of people, meaning numerous, came to them.
فدهمتهم دهما بكل طمرة
So I overwhelmed them with every swift mare.
وكل ما غشيك فقد دهمك
And everything that covered you has overwhelmed you.
يوم تلاقى شاؤه ونعمه
On a day when his sheep and his camels meet.
ودهمهم الأمر يدهمهم
And the matter overwhelmed them, it overwhelms them.
ودهمتهم الخيل
And the horses overwhelmed them.
وأتتكم الدهيماء؛ يقال: أراد بالدهيماء السوداء المظلمة
And al-Dahymaa' has come to you; it is said: he intended by al-Dahymaa' the dark, black one.
فقال: الدهيماء نراه أراد الدهماء فصغرها، قال شمر: أراد بالدهماء الفتنة السوداء المظلمة والتصغير فيها للتعظيم
So he said: We think al-Dahymaa' means al-Dahmaa', so he made it diminutive. Shammir said: He intended by al-Dahmaa' the black, dark tribulation, and the diminutive form is for magnification.
فصارت مثلا في كل داهية.
So it became a proverb for every calamity.
وفي دهماء الناس أيضا مثله
And in dahmaa' of people, also its like.
وما أدري أي الدهم هو وأي دهم الله هو أي أي خلق الله.
And I do not know which al-dahm it is, and which dahm Allah is, meaning which creation of Allah.
والدهماء: العدد الكثير.
And al-dahmaa': the large number.
ودهماء الناس: جماعتهم وكثرتهم.
And dahmaa' of people: their gathering and their multitude.
والدهيماء، تصغير الدهماء: الداهية، سميت بذلك لإظلامها
And al-Dahymaa', the diminutive of al-Dahmaa': the calamity, it was named so because of its darkness.
من أراد أهل المدينة بدهم أي بغائلة من أمر عظيم يدهمهم أي يفجؤهم
Whoever intends for the people of Medina with a dahm, meaning a great matter that overwhelms them, meaning it surprises them.
ويقال: هدمه ودهدمه بمعنى واحد
And it is said: hadamah and dahdamah are the same.
والنؤي، بعد عهده المدهدم
And the enclosure, after its ruined state.
شبه الرماد الأدهم
Like black ashes.
وربع أدهم: حديث العهد بالحي، وأربع دهم
And a new dwelling: recently inhabited, and four dwellings.
المتدهم والمتدأم والمتدثر هو المجبوس المأبون.
Al-mutadahdim, al-mutada'am, and al-mutadaththir is the imprisoned, the castrated.
والدهماء: القدر.
And al-dahmaa': the pot.
الدهماء السوداء من القدور، وقد دهمتها النار.
The black pot among cooking pots, and the fire has blackened it.
وفعل به ما أدهمه أي ساءه وأرغمه
And he did to him what adhamahu, meaning it displeased him and forced him.
وقد سموا داهما ودهيما ودهمانا.
And they named them Dahim, Duhaim, and Dahman.
والدهيم: اسم ناقة، وقد تقدم ذكرها.
And al-Dahim: the name of a she-camel, and it has been mentioned before.
ورهط دهمان ورهط عاديه
And the clan of Dahman and the clan of 'Adiyah.
الأدهم: فرس عنترة بن معاوية «3»، صفة غالبة.
