And Ibn Biri recited: And were it not for successive favors from Yazid, ... the two shears would have been on its edges.
وقوله: فأخذت منه بالجلمين؛
And his saying: And I took from it with the two shears;
الجلم: الذي يجز به الشعر والصوف، والجلمان شفرتاه، وهكذا يقال مثنى كالمقص والمقصين.
Al-jilam: that by which hair and wool are shorn, and al-jilman are its two blades, and thus it is said in the dual like al-miqass and al-miqassain.
والجلم: مصدر جلم الجزور يجلمها جلما واجتلمها إذا أخذ ما على عظامها من اللحم.
And al-jalam: a masdar of jalam the camel, yajlimuha jalaman and ijtalamaha if one takes the flesh from its bones.
والجلم: من سمات الإبل «3» شبيه بالجلم في الخد؛

He sheared the hair and wool of the sheep with the shears, yajlimuhu jalaman: he cut it, as you say you trim a nail with a pen;
وأنشد: لما أتيتم ولم تنجوا بمظلمة، ... قيس القلامة مما جزه الجلم
And he recited: When you came and did not escape injustice, ... measure the trimmed part by what the shears cut.
ويقال للمقراض المقلام والقلمان والجلمان، قال: هكذا رواه الكسائي، بضم النون، كأنه جعله نعتا على فعلان من القلم والجلم، وجعله اسما واحدا، كما يقال رجل شحذان وأبيان.
And the shears are called al-miqlam, al-qalaman, and al-jilman. He said: Al-Kisa'i narrated it thus, with damma on the nun, as if he made it an adjective on the pattern fi'lan from qalam and jalam, and made it a single noun, as one says rajulun shakhdhan and abyan.
والجلم: الذي يجز به.
And al-jalam: that by which one shears.
والجلامة: ما جز.
And al-jalamah: what is shorn.
أبو مالك: جلمة مثل حلقة، وهو أن يجتلم ما على الظهر من الشحم واللحم.
Abu Malik: Jalamah like halqah, which is to strip the fat and flesh from the back.
والجلام: التيوس المحلوقة.
And al-jilam: the shorn he-goats.
وهن مجلوم: محلوق؛
And they are majlum: shorn;
قال الفرزدق: أتته بمجلوم كأن جبينه ... صلاية ورس، وسطها قد تفلقا
Al-Farazdaq said: She brought him a shorn one whose forehead was like a flat stone, split in the middle.
وأخذ الشيء بجلمته وجلمته أي جماعته.

أبو عبيد: الجلام شاء أهل مكة، واحدتها جلمة؛
Abu Ubaid: Al-jilam are the sheep of the people of Mecca, and their singular is jalamah;
وأنشد: شواسف مثل الجلام قب
And he recited: Large like the sheep of Mecca.
