The letter of 'waṣl' is that which comes after the rhyme.

أحدهما ما كان بعده خروج كقوله: عفت الديار محلها فمقامها

One of them is what is followed by an excursion, as in his saying: The abodes have been effaced, their place and their dwelling.

والثاني أن لا يكون بعده خروج كقوله: ألا طال هذا الليل وازور جانبه، ... وأرقني أن لا حليل ألاعبه
