يقال: هذه أرض وبلة أي وبئة وخمة
It is said: This is a land that is wabilah, meaning unhealthy and noxious.
فذاقت وبال أمرها وفأخذناه أخذا وبيلا
So they tasted the consequence of their affair, and We seized them with a severe seizure.
وضرب وبيل أي شديد

زعمت جؤية أنني عبد لها ... أسعى بموبلها، وأكسبها الخنا

Ibn Jinni said: Maybil is derived from wabil, and the Arabs say: I saw a wabil on a wabil, meaning an old man on a staff.
والوبيل: خشبة القصار التي يدق بها الثياب بعد الغسل
And the wabil: the fuller's stick with which they beat the clothes after washing.
والوبيل: خشبة يضرب بها الناقوس

وبله بالعصا والسوط وبلا: ضربه، وقيل: تابع عليه الضرب
He struck him with the staff and whip, meaning he beat him, and it was said: he continued striking him.

والموبلة أيضا الحزمة «2» من الحطب

ويقال: بالشاة وبلة شديدة أي شهوة للفحل

وقد استوبلت الغنم
And the sheep experienced strong desire.
والوابلة: طرف رأس العضد والفخذ
And the wabila: the end of the upper arm and thigh.
والوابلة: نسل الإبل والغنم
And the wabila: the offspring of camels and sheep.
أهدى رجل للحسن والحسين، عليهما السلام، ولم يهد لابن الحنفية فأومأ علي، عليه السلام، إلى وابلة محمد ثم تمثل
A man gifted Hasan and Husayn, peace be upon them, but did not gift Ibn al-Hanafiyyah. So Ali, peace be upon him, gestured to Muhammad's wabila and then recited:
وما شر الثلاثة، أم عمرو، ... بصاحبك الذي لا تصبحينا
And what is the evil of the three, O Umm Amr, ... compared to your companion whom you will not meet.
تلك المكارم، يا فرزدق، فاعترف ... لا سوق بكرك، يوم جرف وبال
Those are the noble deeds, O Farazdaq, so admit it... not your market on the day of Jarf and Wabal.
