وما يعرف قبيلا من دبير: يريد القبل والدبر
And he does not know the front from the rear: meaning the front and the rear.
وقيل: القبيل طاعة الرب تعالى، والدبير معصيته
And it is said: the qabil is obedience to God Almighty, and the dabir is disobedience to Him.
وقيل: معناه لا يعرف الأمر مقبلا ولا مدبرا
And it is said: its meaning is that he does not know the matter coming towards him nor going away from him.
وقيل: هو ما أقبلت به المرأة من غزلها حين تفتله وأدبرت
And it is said: it is what the woman brings forward of her spinning when she twists it and what she brings backward.
وقيل: القبيل من الفتل ما أقبل به على الصدر والدبير ما أدبر به عنه
And it is said: the qabil of the twist is what is brought towards the chest, and the dabir is what is brought away from it.
وقيل: القبيل باطن الفتل والدبير ظاهره
And it is said: the qabil is the inner part of the twist, and the dabir is its outer part.
وقيل: القبيل والدبير في فتل الحبل، فالقبيل الفتل الأول الذي عليه العامة، والدبير الفتل الآخر
And it is said: the qabil and dabir are in twisting a rope; the qabil is the first twist upon which the general public relies, and the dabir is the second twist.
وقال المفضل: القبيل فوز القدح في القمار، والدبير خيبة القدح
And Al-Mufaddal said: the qabil is the winning of the lot in gambling, and the dabir is the losing of the lot.
وقال جماعة من الأعراب: القبيل أن يكون رأس ضمن النعل إلى الإبهام، والدبير أن يكون رأس الضمن إلى الخنصر
And a group of Arabs said: the qabil is when the head of the strap of the sandal is towards the thumb, and the dabir is when the head of the strap is towards the little finger.
وقيل القبيل أسفل الأذن والدبير أعلاها
And it is said the qabil is below the ear and the dabir is above it.
وأقبل: نقيض أدبر
And aqbala: the opposite of adbara.
ويقال: أقبل مقبلا مثل أدخلني مدخل صدق
And it is said: he came with muqbalan, like 'enter me into a place of truth'.
وفي حديث الحسن: أنه سئل عن مقبله من العراق
And in the narration of Al-Hasan: he was asked about his arrival from Iraq.
المقبل، بضم الميم وفتح الباء: مصدر أقبل يقبل إذا قدم
Al-muqbil, with damma on the mim and fatha on the ba: the masdar of aqbala yaqbilu when arriving.
وقبل الشيء قبولا وقبولا، والأخيرة عن ابن الأعرابي، وتقبله، كلاهما: أخذه
And qabila the thing qaboolan wa quboolan, the latter from Ibn Al-Arabi, and taqabbalahu, both mean: taking it.
والله عز وجل يقبل الأعمال من عباده وعنهم ويتقبلها
And Allah, the Exalted, accepts deeds from His servants and from them, and He takes them.
أولئك الذين نتقبل عنهم أحسن ما عملوا
Those are the ones from whom We accept the best of what they did.
قبلت الهدية أقبلها قبولا وقبولا
I accepted the gift, I accept it qaboolan wa quboolan.
ويقال: عليه قبول إذا كانت العين تقبله، وعلى قبول أي تقبله العين
And it is said: he has qubool if the eye accepts him, and 'ala qubool meaning the eye accepts him.
وعلى وجهه قبول لا غير، وقبله بقبول حسن، وكذلك تقبله بقبول أيضا
And on his face is qubool and nothing else, and he accepted him with qubool hasan, and likewise he accepted him with qubool also.
فتقبلها ربها بقبول حسن
So her Lord accepted her with a good acceptance.
يقال: قبلت الشيء قبولا إذا رضيته
It is said: I accepted the thing qaboolan if you were pleased with it.
يقال: على فلان قبول إذا قبلته النفس
It is said: so-and-so has qubool if the soul accepts him.
وفي الحديث: ثم يوضع له القبول في الأرض
And in the Hadith: then acceptance is made for him on earth.
تقبله النعيم: بدا عليه واستبان فيه
Taqabbalahu al-na'eem: it appeared on him and became evident in him.
وأقبله وأقبل به إذا راوده على الأمر فلم يقبله
And aqbalahu wa aqbala bihi if he persuaded him to do the matter and he did not accept it.
وقابل الشيء بالشيء مقابلة وقبالا: عارضه
And qabala the thing with the thing muqabalah wa qubalan: to oppose it.
ومقابلة الكتاب بالكتاب وقباله به: معارضته
And muqabalah of the book with the book and qubaluhu bihi: opposing it.
وتقابل القوم: استقبل بعضهم بعضا
And taqabala the people: they faced each other.
إخوانا على سرر متقابلين
Brothers, upon couches, facing each other.
وأقبلناهم الرماح، وأقبل إبله أفواه الوادي واستقبلها إياه وقد قبلته تقبله قبولا، وكذلك أقبلنا الرماح نحو القوم
And we directed the spears towards them, and he directed his camels towards the mouths of the valley and it received them, and he accepted them qaboolan, and likewise we directed the spears towards the people.
وأقبل الإبل الطريق: أسلكها إياه
And aqbala the camels the road: he made them traverse it.
انزل بقابل هذا الجبل أي بما استقبلك من أقباله وقوابله
Descend by the qabil of this mountain, meaning what faces you of its approaches and its fronts.
وأقبلته الشيء أي جعلته يلي قبالته
And aqbaltuhu the thing: meaning you made it face its opposite.
وقبلت الماشية الوادي: استقبلته، وأقبلتها إياه، فيتعدى إلى مفعول
And qabilat the livestock the valley: they entered it; and aqbaltuha iyyahu, so it becomes transitive to an object.
ولأقبلن الخيل لابة ضرغد
And I will surely bring the horses towards the lava field of Dharghad.
وهو قبالك وقبالتك أي تجاهك
And it is qibaluka and qibalatuka, meaning towards you.
هذه كلمة قبال كلمتك كقولك حيال كلمتك
This word qibal is like your word, like your word hiyal.
قبالة الطريق: ما استقبلك منه
Qibalah of the road: what faces you of it.
اذهب به فأقبله الطريق أي دله عليه واجعله قباله
Go with him and aqbilhu the road, meaning guide him to it and make it face it.
وأقبل المكواة الداء: جعلها قبالته
And aqbala the cautery the disease: he made it face it.
وأقبلت أفواه العروق المكاويا
And I brought the mouths of the veins to be cauterized.
فأقبلت زيدا وأدبرته أي جعلته مرة أمامي ومرة خلفي
So I brought Zayd forward and backward, meaning I made him once in front of me and once behind me.
أقبلت زيدا مرة وأدبرته أخرى أي جعلته مرة أمامي ومرة خلفي في المشي
I brought Zayd forward once and backward another time, meaning I made him once in front of me and once behind me while walking.
وقبلت الجبل مرة ودبرته أخرى
And I approached the mountain once and went away from it another time.
وقبائل الرأس: أطباقه، وقيل: هي أربع قطع مشعوب بعضها إلى بعض
And qaba'il of the head: its plates; and it is said: they are four pieces joined to each other.
واحدتها قبيلة، وكذلك قبائل القدح والجفنة إذا كانت على قطعتين أو ثلاث قطع
Its singular is qabilah, and likewise the qaba'il of the cup and the bowl if they are in two or three pieces.
قبيلة الرأس كل فلقة قد قوبلت بالأخرى
Qabilah of the head is every segment that is matched with another.
القبيلة واحدة قبائل الرأس وهي القطع المشعوب بعضها إلى بعض تصل بها الشؤون، وبها سميت قبائل العرب، الواحدة قبيلة
The qabilah is one of the qaba'il of the head, which are the pieces joined to each other that connect the joints; and by it the tribes of the Arabs were named, the singular being qabilah.
وقبائل الرحل: أحناؤه المشعوب بعضها إلى بعض
And qaba'il of the saddle: its parts joined to each other.
وقبائل الشجرة: أغصانها
And qaba'il of the tree: its branches.
وكل قطعة من الجلد قبيلة
And every piece of leather is a qabilah.
والقبيلة: صخرة تكون على رأس البئر، والعقابان دعامتا القبيلة من جنبتيها يعضدانها
And the qabilah: a rock that is at the head of the well, and the two eagle-like stones are the supports of the qabilah from its sides, strengthening it.
والقبيلة من الناس: بنو أب واحد
And the qabilah of people: the descendants of one father.
الشعب أكبر من القبيلة ثم القبيلة ثم العمارة ثم البطن ثم الفخذ
The sha'b is larger than the qabilah, then the qabilah, then the 'imarah, then the baṭn, then the fakhidh.
سموا بذلك ليفرق بينهما، ومعنى القبيلة من ولد إسماعيل، عليه السلام، معنى الجماعة، يقال لكل جماعة من واحد قبيلة
They were named thus to distinguish between them, and the meaning of the qabilah from the offspring of Ishmael, peace be upon him, is the meaning of a group; it is said for every group from one that it is a qabilah.
ويقال لكل جمع من شيء واحد قبيل
And for every collection of one thing, it is said qabeel.
إنه يراكم هو وقبيله من حيث لا ترونهم
Indeed, He sees you, he and his qabeel, from where you do not see them.
أخذت قبائل العرب من قبائل الرأس لاجتماعها وجماعتها
The tribes of the Arabs took their name from the qaba'il of the head due to their coming together and their group.
ورأيت قبائل من الطير أي أصنافا، وكل صنف منها قبيلة: فالغربان قبيلة والحمام قبيلة
And I saw qaba'il of birds, meaning kinds, and each kind of them is a qabilah: the crows are a qabilah and the pigeons are a qabilah.
رأيت ردافى فوقها من قبيلة، ... من الطير، يدعوها أحم شحوج
I saw riders on top of them from a qabilah, ... of birds, calling them with a harsh cry.
وكل جيل من الجن والناس قبيل
And every generation of jinn and people is a qabeel.
والقبيلة: اسم فرس سميت بذلك على التفاؤل كأنها إنما تحمل قبيلة، أو كأن الفارس الذي عليها يقوم مقام قبيلة
And Al-Qabilah: the name of a mare, named thus as an omen, as if she carries a tribe, or as if the rider on her stands in place of a tribe.
قصرت له القبيلة إذ تجهنا، ... وما ضاقت بشدته ذراعي
The Qabilah was short for him when we were weary, ... and my arm did not feel constricted by his strength.
