And a faḥīl ram: resembles a stud camel in its size and nobility.

أراد بالفحل غير خصي، وبالفحيل ما ذكرناه
He meant by faḥl: not castrated, and by faḥīl: what we have mentioned.

And al-fuḥūl: they are those who overcame in satire those who satirized them, like Jarir and Al-Farazdaq and their likes.

يقال للنخل الذكر الذي يلقح به حوائل النخل فحال، الواحدة فحالة
The male palm tree which pollinates the female palms is called fiḥāl, the singular is fiḥālah.
والفحل: حصير تنسج من فحال النخل
And al-faḥl: a mat woven from the fronds of the male date palm.
وفي ناحية البيت فحل من تلك الفحول، فأمر بناحية منه فكنس ورش ثم صلى عليه
And in the corner of the house was a mat from those mats, so he ordered a part of it to be swept and sprinkled, then he prayed on it.

فإنه أراد بالفحل فحل النخل، وذلك أنه ربما يكون بين جماعة منهم فحل نخل يأخذ كل واحد من الشركاء فيه، زمن تأبير النخل، ما يحتاج إليه من الحرق لتأبير النخل
For he meant by faḥl: the male date palm, and that is because there might be among a group of them a plot of male date palms, from which each partner takes what he needs for pollination during the pollination season.
