الشلل: يبس اليد وذهابها
Paralysis: stiffness of the hand and its loss of function.
شلت يده تشل بالفتح شلا وشللا وأشلها الله
His hand became paralyzed, it paralyzes (with fatha) paralysis and paralysis, and God caused it to be paralyzed.
فشلت يميني، يوم أعلو ابن جعفر ... وشل بناناها، وشل الخناصر
My right hand failed on the day I struck Ibn Ja'far... and its fingertips were paralyzed, and the little fingers were paralyzed.
ولا شللا ولا شلال: مبنية كحذام أي لا تشلل يدك
And 'no paralysis, no scattering': built like Hizam, meaning 'may your hand not be paralyzed'.
ويقال في الدعاء: لا تشلل يدك ولا تكلل
And it is said in supplication: 'May your hand not be paralyzed, nor may it fail'.
وقد شللت يا رجل، بالكسر، تشل شللا أي صرت أشل
And you became paralyzed, O man, (with kasra), you become paralyzed, meaning you became paralyzed.
والمرأة شلاء
And the woman is shalaa' (paralyzed).
ويقال لمن أجاد الرمي أو الطعن: لا شللا ولا عمى، ولا شل عشرك أي أصابعك
And it is said to one who excels at throwing or stabbing: 'No paralysis, no blindness, and may your fingers not be paralyzed', meaning your fingers.
وفي اليد الشلاء إذا قطعت ثلث ديتها
And in the case of a paralyzed hand, if it is cut off, one-third of its blood money is due.
هي المنتشرة العصب التي لا تواتي صاحبها على ما يريد لما بها من الآفة
It is the one with scattered nerves that does not obey its owner as he wishes due to the affliction it has.
والشلل في الثوب: أن يصيبه سواد أو غيره فإذا غسل لم يذهب
And shalal in a garment: is when blackness or something else affects it, and when washed, it does not go away.
والشليل: مسح من صوف أو شعر يجعل على عجز البعير من وراء الرحل
And al-shalil: is a pad of wool or hair placed on the hindquarters of a camel behind the saddle.
والشليل: الحلس؛ قال
And al-shalil: is the saddle cloth; he said.
والشليل: الغلالة التي تلبس فوق الدرع، وقيل: هي الدرع الصغيرة القصيرة تكون تحت الكبيرة، وقيل: تحت الدرع من ثوب أو غيره، وقيل: هي الدرع ما كانت، والجمع الأشلة
And al-shalil: is the tunic worn over the armor, and it is said: it is the small, short armor that is under the large one, and it is said: under the armor made of cloth or otherwise, and it is said: it is the armor itself, and the plural is al-ashillah.
وشل الدرع يشلها شلا إذا لبسها، وشلها عليه
And he put on the armor, shalla-hu, shalan, if he wore it, and shalla-hu 'alayhi (put it on him).
والشلة: الدرع
And al-shillah: is the armor.
والشليل: النخاع وهو العرق الأبيض الذي في فقر الظهر
And al-shalil: is the marrow, which is the white vein in the backbone.
والشليل: طرائق طوال من لحم تكون ممتدة مع الظهر، واحدتها شليلة؛ كلاهما عن كراع
And al-shalil: are long strips of meat that extend along the back, the singular of which is shalilah; both are from Kara'.
والشل والشلل: الطرد، شله يشله شلا فانشل، وكذلك شل العير أتنه والسائق إبله
And al-shall and al-shalal: is the driving away; he drove it, shalahu, shalan, and it was driven away, fanshalla; likewise, the male camel drove its female, and the driver drove his camels.
وحمار مشل: كثير الطرد
And a mushill donkey: one that drives away a lot.
والشلة: الطرد
And al-shillah: is the driving away.
وشللت الإبل أشلها شلا إذا طردتها فانشلت
And I drove the camels, I drive them, shalan, if I drove them and they were driven away.
ومر فلان يشلهم بالسيف أي يكسؤهم ويطردهم
And so-and-so passed by, shalahum, with the sword, meaning he beat them and drove them away.
وذهب القوم شلالا أي انشلوا مطرودين
And the people went shilalan, meaning they were scattered, driven away.
وجاؤوا شلالا إذا جاؤوا يطردون الإبل
And they came shilalan if they came driving camels.
والشلال: القوم المتفرقون؛ قال ابن الدمينة
And al-shallal: are the scattered people; Ibn al-Dumaynah said.
وشل يشل إذا طرد، وشل يشل إذا اعوجت يده بالكسر
And shalla, yashullu, if he drove away, and shalla, yashillu, if his hand became crooked (with kasra).
والأشل: المعوج المعصم المتعطل الكف
And al-ashall: is the one with a crooked wrist, a disabled hand.
وعين شلاء: للتي ذهب بصرها، وفي العين عرق إذا قطع ذهب بصرها أو أشلها
And a shalaa' eye: is one whose sight is gone, and in the eye is a vein, if it is cut, its sight goes or it is paralyzed.
ورجل مشل وشلول وشلل وشلشل: خفيف سريع؛ قال الأعشى
And a man mushill, shallool, shallal, and shallshal: light and fast; Al-A'sha said.
والمتشلشل: الذي قد تخدد لحمه
And al-mutashalshil: is one whose flesh has become thin.
ورجل شلشل، بالضم، ومتشلشل: قليل اللحم خفيف فما أخذ فيه من عمل أو غيره
And a man shallshal (with damma), and mutashalshil: is thin-fleshed, light, in whatever he undertakes of work or otherwise.
شللت الثوب خطته خياطة خفيفة
I stitched the garment, shallaltuhu, with light stitching.
والشلشلة: قطران الماء وقد تشلشل
And al-shalshalah: is the dripping of water, and it has dripped.
ومـاء شلشل ومتشلشل: تشلشل يتبع قطران بعضه بعضا وسيلانه، وكذلك الدم
And water shallshal and mutashalshil: it drips, one part following another and flowing, and likewise blood.
والشلشل: الزق السائل
And al-shalshal: is the leaking waterskin.
وشلشلت الماء أي قطرته، فهو مشلشل
And I dripped the water, shalshaltuhu, meaning I dripped it, and it is mushalshal.
ومـاء ذو شلشل وشلشال أي ذو قطران؛ وأنشد الأصمعي
And water with shallshal and shallshal, meaning with dripping; Al-Asma'i recited.
وفـي الحـديث: فإنه يأتي يوم القيامة وجرحه يتشلشل أي يتقاطر دما
And in the Hadith: 'He will come on the Day of Resurrection, and his wound will be shallshaling', meaning dripping with blood.
يقال: شلشل الماء فتشلشل
It is said: The water dripped, shallshala, and it dripped, tashalshala.
وشلشل السيف الدم وتشلشل به: صبه
And the sword dripped blood, shallshala, and it dripped with it, tashalshala: it poured it.
وشلشل بوله وببوله شلشلة وشلشالا: فرقه وأرسله منتشرا، والاسم الشلشال، والصبي يشلشل ببوله
And he scattered his urine, and with his urine shallshalah and shallshalan: he dispersed it and sent it out scattered, and the noun is al-shallal, and the boy scatters his urine, yushalshilu.
وشلت العين دمعها كشنته: أرسلته، وزعم يعقوب أنه من البدل
And the eye shed its tears, shallat, meaning it sent them, and Ya'qub claimed it was from substitution.
والشليل من الوادي: وسطه حيث يسيل معظم الماء
And al-shalil of the valley: is its middle where most of the water flows.
انسل السيل وانشل، وذلك أول ما يبتدئ حين يسيل قبل أن يشتد
The flood flowed and flowed, insalla and inshalla, and that is the beginning when it flows before it intensifies.
والشليل: الكساء الذي تحت الرحل
And al-shalil: is the cloth under the saddle.
والشليل: الحلس الذي يكون على عجز البعير؛ وقال حاجب المازني
And al-shalil: is the saddle cloth that is on the camel's hindquarters; Hajib al-Mazani said.
وزين الأشلة بالسدول
And adorned the ashillah with curtains.
والشلى: النية في السفر والصوم والحرب، يقال: أين شلاهم؟
And al-shalaa: is the intention in travel, fasting, and war; it is said: Where is their intention?
والشلة النية حيث انتوى القوم، وفي التهذيب: النية في السفر
And al-shillah is the intention where the people intended, and in Al-Tahdhib: the intention in travel.
والشلة والشلة: الأمر البعيد تطلبه؛ قال أبو ذؤيب
And al-shillah and al-shillah: is the distant matter you seek; Abu Dhu'ayb said.
ومطلب شلة، وهي الطروح
And a pursuit of a shillah, which is the distant goal.
يرعين بالصلب بذي شلاشلا
They graze in the الصلب with shalshala.
كرهت العقر عقر بني شليل
I disliked the slaughter, the slaughter of the sons of Shalil.
انشغ الذئب في الغنم وانشل فيها وانشن وأغار فيها واستغار بمعنى واحد
The wolf scattered among the sheep, and scattered in them, and scattered in them, and raided in them, and sought to raid, all meaning one.
حتى غلبنا، ولولا نحن قد علموا، ... حلت شليلا عذاراهم وجمالا
Until we prevailed, and if they had known, ... Shalil would have been their adornment and their beauty.
