وزعم قوم أن الخمر يسمى زنجبيلا؛ قال: وزنجبيل عاتق مطيب
And a group claimed that wine is called زنجبيل; he said: And زنجبيل, aged and perfumed.
وقيل: الزنجبيل العود الحريف الذي يحذي اللسان.
And it was said: Al-zinjabil is the pungent wood that stings the tongue.
كان مزاجها زنجبيلا.
Its mixture was زنجبيل.
والعرب تصف الزنجبيل بالطيب وهو مستطاب عندهم جدا
And the Arabs describe زنجبيل as fragrant, and it is very desirable to them.
كأن القرنفل والزنجبيل ... باتا بفيها، وأريا مشورا
As if cloves and زنجبيل... spent the night in her mouth, and gave forth a pleasant aroma.
فجائز أن يكون الزنجبيل في خمر الجنة، وجائز أن يكون مزاجها ولا غائلة له، وجائز أن يكون اسما للعين التي يؤخذ منها هذا الخمر، واسمه السلسبيل أيضا.
So it is permissible that زنجبيل is in the wine of Paradise, and permissible that it is its mixture without any harm, and permissible that it is a name for the spring from which this wine is taken, and its name is also Al-Salsabil.
