Abu Mansur said: I heard an Arab say to another: Give me a 'zaghlah' of milk; he meant an amount that fills his mouth.

وأزغلت الطعنة بالدم: مثل أوزغت؛

And the wound expelled blood: similar to 'awzaghat'.

ولقد دفعت إلى دريد طعنة ... نجلاء، تزغل مثل عط المنحر

And I delivered to Durayd a deep wound... gushing like the flow from the throat.

زغلت المرأة من عزلاء المزادة ماء.

The woman poured water from the waterskin's spout.

قال أبو منصور: سماعي من العرب أزغل من عزلاء المزادة الماء إذا دفقه.

Abu Mansur said: My hearing from the Arabs is 'azghala' from the waterskin's spout when it is poured forcefully.

وأزغل الطائر فرخه إذا زقه.

And the bird fed its young when it regurgitated food for it.

وأزغلت القطاة فرخها: زقته؛

And the sandgrouse fed its chick: it regurgitated food for it.

فأزغلت في حلقه زغلة، ... لم تخطئ الجيد، ولم تشفتر

So she poured into its throat a 'zaghlah', ... it did not miss the throat, nor did it open wide.

وزغلت البهمة أمها تزغلها زغلا: قهرتها فرضعتها.

And the young goat forcefully suckled its mother, 'zaghlah' and 'zaghlah': she overcame her and nursed her.

أزغلت المرأة ولدها، فهي مزغل إذا أرضعته؛

The woman nursed her child, and she is a 'mizghal' if she nurses him;

وقال شمر: أرغلت بمعناه.

And Shamir said: 'Arghalat' has the same meaning.

يقال رغل الجدي أمه وزغلها رغلا وزغلا إذا رضعها.
