It is said: the infant suckled its mother, yarkhaluha raghlan, it nursed her, and some specified it for the kid.
يسبق فيها الحمل العجيا ... رغلا، إذا ما آنس العشيا
The lamb precedes in it the one fed artificially... suckling, when it senses the evening.
قال أبو زيد: ويقال فلان رم رغول إذا اغتنم كل شيء وأكله
Abu Zayd said: And it is said, 'So-and-so is rum raghul if he seizes and eats everything.'
وفصيل راغل أي لاهج، ورغل البهمة أمه يرغلها كذلك.
And a young camel is raghil, meaning attached, and the young goat suckled its mother, yarkhaluha, likewise.
وأرغلت القطاة فرخها إذا زقته، بالراء والزاي؛ وينشد بيت ابن أحمر: فأرغلت في حلقه رغلة، ... لم تخطئ الجيد ولم تشفتر بالروايتين.
And the sandgrouse fed its chick if it regurgitated for it, with ra and zay; and the verse of Ibn Ahmar is recited: 'So I fed into its throat a raghla... it did not miss the neck and did not open its mouth,' with both readings.
وفي حديث مسعر: أنه قرأ على عاصم فلحن فقال: أرغلت أي صرت صبيا ترضع بعد ما مهرت القراءة، من قولهم رغل الصبي يرغل إذا أخذ ثدي أمه فرضعه بسرعة، ويروى بالزاي لغة فيه.
And in the hadith of Mis'ar: that he recited to Asim and made a mistake, so he said: 'Arghalta,' meaning you became a child suckling after you had mastered recitation, from their saying 'the child suckles,' yarkhal, if he takes his mother's breast and suckles it quickly, and it is narrated with zay as a variant.
وأرغلت المرأة، وهي مرغل: أرضعت ولدها، بالراء والزاي جميعا.
And the woman nursed, and she is murghil: she nursed her child, with both ra and zay.
وأرغلت ولدها: أرضعته.
And she nursed her child: she breastfed him.
وأرغل إليه: مال كأرغن.
And he inclined towards him: he leaned towards him, like arghana.
وأرغل أيضا: أخطأ ووضع الشيء في غير موضعه.
And he erred also: he made a mistake and put the thing in the wrong place.
وأرغلت الإبل عن مراتعها أي ضلت.
And the camels strayed from their pastures, meaning they got lost.
والرغل: أن يجاوز السنبل الإلحام، وقد أرغل الزرع؛ عن أبي حنيفة.
And al-raghl: is for the ear of grain to surpass the initial formation, and the crop has arghala; according to Abu Hanifa.
والرغل، بالضم: ضرب من الحمض، والجمع أرغال؛ قال أبو حنيفة: الرغل حمضة تنفرش وعيدانها صلاب، وورقها نحو من ورق الجماجم إلا أنها بيضاء ومنابتها السهول؛ قال أبو النجم: تظل حفراه من التهدل ... في روض ذفراء، ورغل مخجل
And al-raghl, with damma: a type of sour plant, and its plural is arghal; Abu Hanifa said: Al-raghl is a sour plant that spreads out, its stems are hard, and its leaves are like the leaves of the 'jumaajim' except they are white and grow in the plains; Abu al-Najm said: Its burrows remain from drooping... in a fragrant meadow, and a concealing raghl.
قال أبو منصور: غلط الليث في تفسير الرغل أنه السرمق، والرغل من شجر الحمض وورقه مفتول، والإبل تحمض به؛ قال: وأنشدني أعرابي ونحن بالصمان: ترعى من الصمان روضا آرجا، ... ورغلا باتت به لواهجا
Abu Mansur said: Al-Layth erred in interpreting al-raghl as al-sarmaq, and al-raghl is from the sour trees and its leaves are twisted, and camels graze on it; he said: And an Arab recited to me while we were in al-Summan: 'She grazes from al-Summan on a fragrant meadow, ... and raghl on which she spent the night, burning.'
وأرغلت الأرض: أنبتت الرغل.
And the land arghalat: it produced al-raghl.
ورغال: الأمة؛ قالت دختنوس: فخر البغي بحدج ... ربتها، إذا الناس استقلوا «1». لا رجلها حملت، ولا ... لرغال فيه مستظل
And Righal: the female slave; Dakhtanus said: The proud prostitute boasts of her litter... whom she raised, when people departed. 'Neither her legs carried her, nor... for Righal therein is shelter.'
قال: رغال هي الأمة لأنها تطعم وتستطعم.
He said: Righal is the female slave because she is fed and feeds others.
وأبو رغال: كنية، وقيل: كان رجلا عشارا في الزمن الأول جائرا فقبره يرجم إلى اليوم، وقبره بين مكة والطائف، وكان عبدا لشعيب، على نبينا وعليه الصلاة والسلام؛ قال جرير: إذا مات الفرزدق فارجموه، ... كما ترمون قبر أبي رغال
And Abu Rigal: a kunya, and it is said: he was a tax collector in the first era, an oppressor, whose grave is still stoned to this day, and his grave is between Mecca and Taif, and he was a servant of Shu'ayb, upon our Prophet and peace be upon him; Jarir said: When Al-Farazdaq dies, stone him, ... as you stone the grave of Abu Rigal.
وقيل: كان أبو رغال دليلا للحبشة حين توجهوا إلى مكة فمات في الطريق.
And it is said: Abu Rigal was a guide for the Abyssinians when they headed to Mecca, and he died on the way.
