هذا كما يقال اشترى زوج خف وزوج نعل، وإنما هما زوجان يريد رجلي سراويل لأن السراويل من لباس الرجلين، وبعضهم يسمي السراويل رجلا.

This is like saying he bought a pair of slippers and a pair of sandals; they are two pairs, meaning two legs of trousers, because trousers are worn on the legs, and some call trousers 'rajul'.

الرجل: الخوف والفزع من فوت الشيء، يقال: أنا من أمري على رجل أي على خوف من فوته.

Al-rajul: fear and anxiety about missing an opportunity; it is said: I am in fear of missing my affair.

Al-rajul in the speech of the people of Yemen: one who has much intercourse; Al-Farazdaq used to say that and claim that some Arabs call him 'al-'usfuri'; and he recited: I was a man of much intercourse in my time of delusion, ... and today I am barren and desolate.

والرجلة: منبت العرفج الكثير في روضة واحدة.

And al-rajlah: a dense growth of 'urfuj shrubs in a single meadow.

Al-lamaj: eating with the tips of the mouth; Abu Hanifa said: Al-rajul is in roughness and softness, and it is easy places to which water flows and is retained.

وقال مرة: الرجلة كالقري وهي واسعة تحل، قال: وهي مسيل سهلة منبات.

And Murrah said: Al-rajlah is like al-qari, which is wide and habitable; he said: It is an easy, fertile watercourse.

أبو عمرو: الراجلة كبش الراعي الذي يحمل عليه متاعه؛ وأنشد: فظل يعمت في قوط وراجلة، ... يكفت الدهر إلا ريث يهتبد

Abu Amr: Al-rajilah is the shepherd's ram on which he carries his belongings; and he recited: So he wandered through fertile land and with a pack animal, ... the days pass except for the time of cooking.

والرجلة: ضرب من الحمض، وقوم يسمون البقلة الحمقاء الرجلة، وإنما هي الفرفخ.

And al-rajlah: a type of sour plant; and some call the foolish herb 'al-rajlah', but it is actually purslane.

And among their sayings is 'He is more foolish than rajlah,' meaning this herb, because it grows on people's paths and is trampled, and in watercourses it is uprooted by the floodwater, and its plural is 'rajul'.

وفي حديث عائشة: أهدي لنا رجل شاة فقسمتها إلا كتفها ؛ تريد نصف شاة طولا فسمتها باسم بعضها.

And in the narration of Aisha: Half a sheep was gifted to us, and I divided it except for the shoulder; she meant half a sheep lengthwise, so she named it after a part of it.

وفي حديث الصعب بن جثامة: أنه أهدى إلى النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، رجل حمار وهو محرم أي أحد شقيه، وقيل: أراد فخذه.

And in the narration of Al-Sa'b bin Jathama: That he gifted the Prophet, peace be upon him, half a donkey while in the state of Ihram, meaning one of its sides, and it was said: he meant its thigh.

والتراجيل: الكرفس، سوادية، وفي التهذيب بلغة العجم، وهو اسم سوادي من بقول البساتين.

And al-tarajil: celery, a dialectal term, and in Al-Tahdhib it is in the Persian language, and it is a dialectal name for a vegetable from gardens.

والمرجل: القدر من الحجارة والنحاس، مذكر؛ قال: حتى إذا ما مرجل القوم أفر

And al-marjal: the pot of stone and copper, masculine; he said: Until the people's pot became full.

وقيل: هو قدر النحاس خاصة، وقيل: هي كل ما طبخ فيها من قدر وغيرها.

And it was said: It is specifically a copper pot, and it was said: It is anything cooked in it, whether a pot or otherwise.

وارتجل الرجل: طبخ في المرجل.

And the man cooked: he cooked in the pot.

والمراجل: ضرب من برود اليمن.

And al-marajil: a type of fabric from Yemen.

والممرجل ضرب من ثياب الوشي فيه صور المراجل، فممرجل على هذا ممفعل، وأما سيبويه فجعله رباعيا لقوله: بشية كشية الممرجل

And al-mumargil is a type of patterned cloth with images of al-marajil; so mumargil is on this pattern of muf'al, and Sibawayh made it quadriliteral based on his saying: With a pattern like the pattern of al-mumargil.

وثوب مرجلي: من الممرجل؛ وفي المثل: حديثا كان بردك مرجليا أي إنما كسيت المراجل حديثا وكنت تلبس العباء؛ كل ذلك عن ابن الأعرابي.

And a marjili garment: made of al-mumargil; and in the proverb: Recently your cloak was marjili, meaning you were recently clothed in marajil and used to wear cloaks; all of that is from Ibn al-A'rabi.

وفي الحديث حتى يبني الناس بيوتا يوشونها وشي المراحل ، ويعني تلك الثياب، قال: ويقال لها المراجل بالجيم أيضا، ويقال لها الراحولات، والله أعلم.

And in the hadith: Until people build houses that they adorn with the adornment of al-marahil, meaning those clothes; he said: They are also called al-marajil with a jim, and they are called al-rahulat, and God knows best.
