إنما أراد أن فيه وحشية كالرأل من الفزع، وهذا مثل قولهم شالت نعامتهم أي فزعوا فهربوا
He only meant that in him there was a wildness like that of the 'ra'l' from fear, and this is like their saying 'their ostrich has moved', meaning they were frightened and fled.
واسترألت الرئلان: كبرت
And the young ostriches ('al-ri'lan') 'istar'alu': they grew large.
واسترأل النبات إذا طال، شبه بعنق الرأل
And plants 'istar'alu' when they grow tall, likened to the neck of a young ostrich.
ومر فلان مرائلا إذا أسرع
