Muzarrid said: 'And I made lumps like tripods, as if they were ... heads of money changers cut off, on the day they are gathered.'

فَجَعَلَها في دُبَيْلٍ وأَلْقَمَهُ شارِفاً لَهُ

So he put it in a lump of dough and fed it to his old she-camel.

والدَّبْلُ: الثُّكْلُ؛ عَنِ ابْنِ الأَعْرابِيِّ.

He named it with bereavement; and others said: He was addressing his daughter with that, and they exaggerated it saying: 'Dabl dabil' and 'dabeel', and sometimes it is accusative meaning a prayer, it is said: 'I caused him to suffer bereavement.'

ويُقالُ: دَبْلٌ دَبِيلٌ أَي ثُكْلٌ ثاكِلٌ، ومِنْهُ سُمِّيَتِ المَرْأَةُ دَبْلَةً.

And it is said: 'Dabl dabeel' meaning a great bereavement, and from this a woman is named Dableh.

والدَّبْلَةُ والدَّبِيلَةُ: داءٌ يَجْتَمِعُ في الجَوْفِ.

فَأَخَذَتْهُ الدَّبِيلَةُ

And the dabeelah afflicted him.

وهِيَ خِراجٌ ودَمْلٌ كَبِيرٌ تَظْهَرُ في الجَوْفِ فَتَقْتُلُ صاحِبَها غالِباً، وهِيَ تَصْغِيرُ دَبْلَةٍ.

It is a large abscess and boil that appears in the abdomen and usually kills its owner, and it is the diminutive of dableh.

وكُلُّ شَيْءٍ جُمِعَ فَقَدْ دَبَلَ.

And everything that is gathered has been 'dabal'.

والدَّبِيلَةُ: الدَّاهِيَةُ، وهِيَ مُصَغَّرَةٌ لِلتَّكْبِيرِ، يُقالُ: دَبَّلَتْهُمُ الدَّبِيلَةُ أَي أَصابَتْهُمُ الدَّاهِيَةُ؛ حَكاها الجَوْهَرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ.

ويُقالُ: دَبَّلَتْهُم دَبِيلَةٌ أَي هَلَكُوا وصُلِبُوا صالَةً.

And it is said: 'A dabeelah afflicted them' meaning they perished and were impaled.

ودَبْلٌ دابِلٌ: وَهُوَ الهَوانُ والخِزْيُ، ويُقالُ: ذَبْلٌ ذابِلٌ، بالذال.

And dabl dabil: which is humiliation and disgrace, and it is said: 'dhul dhabil', with a dhal.

والدَّبْلُ: الطاعُونُ؛ عَنْ ثَعْلَبٍ.

And he improved the land, improving it with dung and the like so that it would yield well.

وأَرْضٌ مُدَبَّلَةٌ: أُصْلِحَتْ بالسَّرْجِينِ.

And an improved land: it was improved with dung.

وكُلُّ شَيْءٍ أَصْلَحْتَهُ فَقَدْ دَبَّلْتَهُ ودَمَّلْتَهُ؛ ومِنْهُ سُمِّيَتِ الجَداوِلُ الدُّبُولَ لأَنَّها تُدَبَّلُ أَي تُنَقَّى وتُصْلَحُ.

And everything you have improved, you have 'dabaltahu' and 'dammaltahu'; and from this the channels are named ad-dubool because they are 'tadbul' meaning they are cleaned and improved.

ودَبَلَ البَعِيرُ دَبْلاً، فَهُوَ دَبِلٌ، إِذا امْتَلأَ لَحْماً وشَحْماً؛ قالَ الرَّاعِي:

And the camel became full, becoming 'dabil', if it is full of meat and fat; Al-Rai said:

تَدارَكَ الغَضَّ مِنْها والعَتِيقَ، فَقَدْ ... لاقَى المَرافِقَ مِنْها وارِدٌ دَبِلُ

He took care of the young and the old, for ... the flanks received from it a full, well-fed arrival.

أَرادَ بالوارِدِ لَحْماً اسْتَرخَى على مَرافِقِها أَي امْتَلأَتْ بِهِ المَرافِقُ، والدَّبْلُ: الجَدْوَلُ، وهُوَ مِنْ ذلِكَ لأَنَّهُ يُصْلَحُ ويُجَهَّزُ، والجَمْعُ دُبُولٌ لأَنَّها تُدَبَّلُ أَي تُصْلَحُ وتُنَقَّى وتُجَهَّزُ.

He meant by 'al-warid' meat that hung loosely on its flanks, meaning the flanks were filled with it. And ad-dabl: the channel, and it is from this because it is improved and prepared, and the plural is dubool because they are 'tadbul' meaning they are improved, cleaned, and prepared.

دَلَّهُ اللهُ على دُبُولٍ أَي جَداوِلَ ماءٍ

Allah guided him to channels of water.

والدُّوبَلُ: وَلَدُ الحِمارِ، وفِي الصِّحاحِ: الدُّوبَلُ الحِمارُ الصَّغِيرُ لا يَكْبَرُ.

And ad-duwbal: the young of a donkey, and in As-Sihah: ad-duwbal is a small donkey that does not grow large.

لأُرْدِنَّكَ إِرِيساً مِنَ الأَرارِسَةِ تَرْعَى الدَّوابِلَ هِيَ جَمْعُ دُوبَلٍ، وهُوَ وَلَدُ الخِنْزِيرِ والحِمارِ، وإِنَّما خَصَّ الصِّغارَ لأَنَّ راعِيَها أَوْضَعُ مِنْ راعِي الكِبارِ، والواوُ زَائِدَةٌ.

I will make you return to a pasture of pastures, grazing the young ones, which is the plural of duwbal, which is the young of a pig and a donkey, and he only specified the young ones because their herder is more lowly than the herder of the adults, and the waw is extra.

وبَكَى دُوبَلٌ، لا يُرَقِّئُ اللهُ دَمْعَهُ، ... أَلا إِنَّما يَبْكِي مِنَ الذُّلِّ دُوبَلُ

And Duwbal wept, may Allah not stop his tears, ... Indeed, Duwbal weeps from humiliation.

والدُّوبَلُ: الذِّئْبُ العَرِمُ.

And ad-duwbal: the fierce wolf.

والدُّوبَلُ: ذَكَرُ الخَنازِيرِ، وهُوَ الرَّتُّ.
