And the hawla' and hawla' from a she-camel is like the placenta for a woman, and it is a membrane whose fluid is green, emerging with the offspring, containing green and red growths, veins, and lines.
وقيل: الحولاء الماء الذي في السلى.
And it was said: Al-hawla' is the fluid that is in the amnion.
سميت حولاء لأنها مشتملة على الولد
It was named hawla' because it envelops the child.
على حولاء يطفو السخد فيها، ... فراها الشيذمان عن الجنين
Upon a hawla' the afterbirth floats within it, ... and the Shaidhaman saw it from the fetus.
وهي أعقاؤه، الواحد عقي، وهو شيء يخرج من دبره وهو في بطن أمه بعضه أسود وبعضه أصفر وبعضه أخضر.
And they are its afterbirths; the singular is 'aqiyy, which is something that emerges from its anus while it is in its mother's womb, some of it black, some yellow, and some green.
وقد عقى الحوار يعقي إذا نتجته أمه فما خرج من دبره عقي حتى يأكل الشجر.
And a camel calf has produced its afterbirth ('aqqa) when its mother gives birth, and what emerges from its anus is 'aqiyy until it eats trees.
ونزلوا في مثل حولاء الناقة وفي مثل حولاء السلى: يريدون بذلك الخصب والماء لأن الحولاء ملأى ماء ريا.
And they settled in a place like the hawla' of a she-camel and like the hawla' of the amnion: they mean by that fertility and water, because the hawla' is full of abundant water.
ورأيت أرضا مثل الحولاء إذا اخضرت وأظلمت خضرة، وذلك حين يتفقأ بعضها وبعض لم يتفقأ؛
And I saw land like the hawla' when it turned green and darkened with verdure, and that is when some of it splits open and some has not yet split open.
بأغن كالحولاء زان جنابه ... نور الدكادك، سوقه تتخضد
With a camel whose flank is adorned like the hawla' ... with the light of the plains, its branches are becoming green.

Our brothers from the people of Kufa have settled in a place like the hawla' of a she-camel, with hanging fruits and gushing rivers, meaning they settled in abundance.

وأحلت عليه بالكلام: أقبلت عليه.
And she addressed him with words (aḥallat 'alayhi bil-kalām): she approached him.
وأحال الذئب على الدم: أقبل عليه؛
And the wolf turned towards the blood (aḥāla 'alā al-dam): it approached it.

Of what approached the valley (aḥāla 'alā al-wādī), meaning what turned towards it.
فجعلوا يضحكون ويحيل بعضهم على بعض أي يقبل عليه ويميل إليه.

It flows into a stream where its frogs crawl, ... crawling like maidens, you see speech in its water.
يقال للقوم إذا أمحلوا فقل لبنهم: حال صبوحهم على غبوقهم أي صار صبوحهم وغبوقهم واحدا.
It is said of people when they are in drought and their milk is scarce: their morning drink has become their evening drink (ḥāla ṣabūḥuhum 'alā ghubūqihim), meaning their morning and evening rations became one.
وحال: بمعنى انصب.
And it flowed (ḥāla): meaning it poured.

Do not fear the wolf over its young shoots, ... even if the night descends from behind them.
الحال: موضع اللبد من ظهر الفرس، وقيل: هي طريقة المتن؛

كأن غلامي، إذ علا حال متنه ... على ظهر باز في السماء، محلق
As if my young man, when he ascended the line of his back, ... on the back of a falcon soaring in the sky.

الحال لحم المتنين، والحمأة والكارة التي يحملها الحمال، واللواء الذي يعقد للأمراء، وفيه ثلاث لغات: الخال، بالخاء المعجمة، وهو أعرقها، والحال والجال.
Al-ḥāl is the flesh of the loins, and the load and the burden that a porter carries, and the banner that is tied for princes, and it has three pronunciations: Al-khāl, with the unpointed khā', which is the most archaic, and al-ḥāl, and al-jāl.
