التبجيل: التعظيم.
Veneration: glorification.
بجل الرجل: عظمه.
A man was venerated: he was greatly respected.
ورجل بجال وبجيل: يبجله الناس،
And a man is bajal and bajil: people venerate him,
وقيل: هو الشيخ الكبير العظيم السيد مع جمال ونبل، وقد بجل بجالة وبجولا، ولا توصف بذلك المرأة.
And it was said: he is the great, venerable elder, the master with beauty and nobility, and he has attained bajala and bajula, and a woman is not described as such.
شمر: البجال من الرجال الذي يبجله أصحابه ويسودونه.
Shammar said: Al-Bajal is a man whom his companions venerate and make him their leader.
والبجيل: الأمر العظيم.
And Al-Bajil: the great matter.
ورجل بجال: حسن الوجه.
And a man is bajal: handsome of face.
وكل غليظ من أي شيء كان: بجيل.
And everything thick or coarse, of whatever kind: is bajil.
أنه، عليه السلام، قال لقتلى أحد: لقيتم خيرا طويلا، ووقيتم شرا بجيلا، وسبقتم سبقا طويلا.
He, peace be upon him, said to the martyrs of Uhud: You have attained great good, and you have been protected from a bajil evil, and you have preceded with a long lead.
أنه أتى القبور فقال: السلام عليكم أصبتم خيرا بجيلا أي واسعا كثيرا، من التبجيل التعظيم، أو من البجال الضخم.
He came to the graves and said: Peace be upon you, you have attained bajil good, meaning abundant and plentiful, from veneration and glorification, or from being a large/sturdy person.
وأمر بجيل: منكر عظيم.
And a bajil matter: a great abomination.
والباجل: المخصب الحسن الحال من الناس والإبل.
And Al-Bajal: the prosperous, well-conditioned one among people and camels.
ويقال للرجل الكثير الشحم: إنه لباجل، وكذلك الناقة والجمل.
And it is said of a man with much fat: he is indeed bajal, and likewise the she-camel and the camel.
وشيخ بجال وبجيل أي جسيم؛ ورجل باجل وقد بجل يبجل بجولا: وهو الحسن الجسيم الخصيب في جسمه؛
And a sheikh is bajal and bajil, meaning robust; and a man is bajal and has become bajula: he is handsome, robust, and prosperous in his body;
وأنت بالباب سمين باجل
And you are at the door, fat and bajal
وبجل الرجل بجلا: حسنت حاله، وقيل: فرح.
And a man became bajala: his condition improved, and it was said: he rejoiced.
وأبجله الشيء إذا فرح به.
And something pleased him if it made him happy.
والأبجل: عرق غليظ في الرجل، وقيل: هو عرق في باطن مفصل الساق في المأبض، وقيل: هو في اليد إزاء الأكحل، وقيل: هو الأبجل في اليد، والنسا في الرجل، والأبهر في الظهر، والأخدع في العنق؛
And Al-Abjal: a thick vein in the leg, and it was said: it is a vein in the inner part of the ankle joint in the popliteal fossa, and it was said: it is Al-Abjal in the hand, Al-Nisa in the leg, Al-Abhar in the back, and Al-Akhda' in the neck;
رزئت بني أمي، فلما رزئتهم ... صبرت، ولم أقطع عليهم أباجلي
I was afflicted by the loss of my brothers, and when I was afflicted by them... I endured, and did not sever my abajil (veins).
والأبجل: عرق وهو من الفرس والبعير بمنزلة الأكحل من الإنسان.
And Al-Abjal: a vein which, in a horse and a camel, is like Al-Akhal in a human.
الأبجل والأكحل والصافن عروق نقصد، وهي من الجداول لا من الأوردة.
Al-Abjal, Al-Akhal, and Al-Safin are prominent veins, and they are from the tributaries, not from the main veins.
الأبجلان عرقان في اليدين وهما في الأكحلان من لدن المنكب إلى الكتف؛
Al-Abjalan are two veins in the hands, and they are like Al-Akhalan from the shoulder to the elbow;
عاري الأشاجع لم يبجل أي لم يفصد أبجله.
His shoulder blades exposed, he was not abjal, meaning his abjal was not phlebotomized.
أنه رمي يوم الأحزاب فقطعوا أبجله ؛
He was wounded on the day of the Battle of the Confederates, and they cut his abjal;
الأبجل: عرق في باطن الذراع، وقيل: هو عرق غليظ في الرجل فيما بين العصب والعظم.
Al-Abjal: a vein in the inner part of the forearm, and it was said: it is a thick vein in the leg between the nerve and the bone.
أما الوليد بن المغيرة فأومأ جبريل إلى أبجله.
As for Al-Walid ibn Al-Mughira, Gabriel pointed to his abjal.
والبجل: البهتان العظيم، يقال: رميته ببجل؛
And Al-Bajal: the great slander, it is said: I accused him with bajal;
قلت بجلا قلت قولا كاذبا، ... إنما يمنعني سيفي ويد
I said bajalan, I said a false statement, ... only my sword and hand prevent me
والبجل: العجب.
And Al-Bajal: wonder.
والبجلة: الصغيرة من الشجر؛
And Al-Bajala: the small tree;
وبجيد مغزلة ترود بوجرة ... بجالات طلح، قد خرفن، وضال
And a she-camel with a spindle-like neck wanders in a sandy area... among bajalat of acacia trees, which have borne fruit, and some are lost.
وبجلي كذا وبجلي أي حسبي؛
And bajali such and such, and bajali means 'enough for me';
بجلي الآن من العيش بجل
Bajali now from life is bajal (enough).
وبجل: بمعنى حسب؛
And bajala: meaning 'enough';
يقولون: بجلك كما يقولون قطك إلا أنهم لا يقولون بجلني كما يقولون قطني، ولكن يقولون بجلي وبجلي أي حسبي،
They say: bajalaka as they say qatṭaka, except they do not say bajjalani as they say qaṭṭani, but they say bajali and bajali, meaning 'enough for me',
فمتى أهلك فلا أحفله، ... بجلي الآن من العيش بجل
So when my family perishes, I will not care for it, ... Bajali now from life is bajal (enough).
فقال لقمان في أحدهم: خذي مني أخي ذا البجل ؛
So Luqman said about one of them: Take my brother, the bajal one;
معناه الحسب والكفاية؛
Its meaning is sufficiency and adequacy;
وأما قوله في أخيه الآخر: خذي مني أخي ذا البجلة يحمل ثقلي وثقله ، فإن هذا مدح ليس من الأول، يقال: ذو بجلة وذو بجالة، وهو الرواء والحسن والحسب والنبل، وبه سمي الرجل بجالة.
As for his saying about his other brother: Take my brother, the one with bajala, who carries my burden and his burden, this is praise and not like the first. It is said: he is endowed with bajala and bajala, which is comeliness, beauty, nobility, and high status, and by this a man is named Bajala.
وإنه لذو بجلة أي شارة حسنة،
And indeed he is endowed with bajala, meaning good appearance,
والبجال الذي يبجله الناس أي يعظمونه.
And Al-Bajal is he whom people venerate, meaning they glorify him.
خُذي مني أخي ذا البجل: رجل بجال وبجيل إذا كان ضخما؛
Take my brother, the bajal one: a man is bajal and bajil if he is large;
رجل ذو بجالة وبجلة وهو الكهل الذي ترى له هيئة وتبجيلا وسنا، ولا يقال امرأة بجالة.
A man endowed with bajala and bajala is the middle-aged man who has an imposing appearance, dignity, and age, and a woman is not called bajala.
رجل بجال كبير عظيم.
A man is bajal, large, and great.
البجال الرجل الشيخ السيد؛
Al-Bajal is the elder, the master;
من أن يرى الشيخ البجال ... يقاد، يهدى بالعشيه
Rather than the venerable sheikh... being led, being guided in the evening
وقد أبجلني ذلك أي كفاني؛
And that has abjalani me, meaning it has sufficed me;
وإليه انتهى اللقم المعمل إليه موارد أهل الخصاص، ... ومن عنده الصدر المبجل
And to him leads the well-trodden path, to him are the resorts of the needy, ... and from him is the venerated position.
بجلك درهم وبجلك درهم.
Bajalaka a dirham, and bajalaka a dirham.
فألقى تمرات في يده وقال: بجلي من الدنيا أي حسبي منها؛
So he threw dates into his hand and said: Bajali from this world, meaning 'enough for me from it';
نحن بني ضبة أصحاب الجمل، ... ردوا علينا شيخنا ثم بجل
We are the sons of Dabba, the companions of the camel, ... return our sheikh to us, then he is bajala (sufficient).
معاذ العزيز الله أن يوطن الهوى ... فؤادي إلفا، ليس لي ببجيل
I seek refuge in the Mighty God that desire should settle... in my heart as a companion, I am not bajil to it.
هو من قولك بجلي كذا أي حسبي،
It is from your saying 'bajali such and such', meaning 'enough for me',
وقال مرة: ليس بمعظم لي، وليس بقوي، وقال مرة: ليس بعظيم القدر مشبه لي.
And another time he said: he is not great to me, nor is he strong, and another time he said: he is not of great status comparable to me.
وبجل الرجل: قال له بجل أي حسبك حيث انتهيت؛
And a man was told bajala: he was told 'bajalaka', meaning 'enough for you where you have reached';
والنسبة إليهم بجلي، بالتحريك،
And the nisba to them is Bajali, with haraka (vowelization),
فصاروا باليمن؛ ألا ترى أن جرير بن عبد الله البجلي نافر رجلا من اليمن إلى الأقرع بن حابس التميمي حكم العرب فقال:
So they became in Yemen; do you not see that Jarir ibn Abdullah Al-Bajali challenged a man from Yemen to Al-Aqra' ibn Habis Al-Tamimi, the judge of the Arabs, and he said:
إنك إن يصرع أخوك تصرع
If your brother is struck down, you will be struck down.
بجيلة ينذروا رميي وفهم، ... كذلك حالهم أبدا وحالي
Bajiila warn of my shooting and their understanding, ... thus is their state always and my state.
إنما صغر بجلة هذه القبيلة.
He only used the diminutive form for Bajiila, this tribe.
والنسبة إليهم بجلي، بالتسكين؛
And the nisba to them is Bajali, with sukun (vocalization);
وآخر منهم أجررت رمحي، ... وفي البجلي معبلة وقيع
And another of them, I dragged my spear, ... and in Al-Bajali there is a place of struggle and falling.
