والإيالة: السياسة.
And al-iyalah means: policy-making or management.
وآل عليهم أولا وإيالا وإيالة: ولي.
And he led them with leadership and governance: he ruled.
وفي المثل: قد ألنا وإيل علينا، يقول: ولينا وولي علينا
And in the proverb: 'We have led and leadership has been over us,' meaning: 'We have ruled and ruled over us.'
فانظر أي أول تؤولها وآل الملك رعيته يؤولها أولا وإيالا: ساسهم وأحسن سياستهم وولي عليهم.
So look, by what means you will manage it; and the king managed his subjects, managing them with leadership and good governance: he led them and managed them well and ruled over them.
وألت الإبل أيلا وإيالا: سقتها.
And she drove the camels with driving and herding: she herded them.
والآل: ما أشرف من البعير.
And al-aal: what is elevated of a camel.
والآل: السراب، وقيل: الآل هو الذي يكون ضحى كالماء بين السماء والأرض يرفع الشخوص ويزهاها
And al-aal: the mirage, and it is said: al-aal is what appears in the forenoon like water between the sky and the earth, raising figures and making them appear grand.
فأما السراب فهو الذي يكون نصف النهار لاطئا بالأرض كأنه ماء جار
As for the mirage, it is what appears at noon, clinging to the ground as if it were flowing water.
إذ يرفع الآل رأس الكلب فارتفعا
When the mirage lifts the dog's head, it rises.
قطعت مهمها وآلا فآلا
I traversed its desolate lands and its mirages, one after another.
والآل: الخشب المجرد؛ ومنه قوله: آل على آل تحمل آلا فالآل الأول: الرجل، والثاني السراب، والثالث الخشب
And al-aal: bare wood; and from it is his saying: 'A man upon wood carrying a mirage,' so the first 'aal' is the man, the second the mirage, and the third the wood.
عرفت لها منزلا دارسا، ... وآلا على الماء يحملن آلا
I recognized for it a desolate dwelling place, ... and poles over the water carrying poles.
كأن حدوجها في الآل ظهرا، ... إذا أفزعن من نشر، سفين
As if their litters in the mirage at noon, ... when frightened by the wind, were ships.
والآل: أطرافه ونواحيه.
And the edges of the mountain: its extremities and its surroundings.
وآل الرجل: أهله وعياله
And the family of a man: his household and his dependents.
اللهم صل على محمد وعلى آل محمد
O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
فإن الصدقة لا تحل لمحمد وآل محمد
For charity is not permissible for Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
أدخلوا آل فرعون أشد العذاب
Enter the family of Pharaoh into the severest punishment.
إيلة الرجل بنو عمه الأدنون.
The 'ilah' of a man are his closest paternal cousins.
وهؤلاء إلتك وهم إلتي الذين وألت إليهم.
And these are your 'ilatah', and they are those to whom you resort.
رددته إلى إلته أي إلى أصله
I returned him to his 'ilah', meaning to his origin.
والآل: الشخص؛ وهو معنى قول أبي ذؤيب يمانية أحيا لها مظ مائد ... وآل قراس، صوب أرمية كحل
And al-aal: the person; and this is the meaning of Abu Dhu'ayb's saying: 'A Yamanite woman revived for it a place of feasting... and the 'aal' of Quras, a shower of kohl-like rain.'
والآلة: خشبات تبنى عليها الخيمة؛ ومنه قول كثير يصف ناقة ويشبه قوائمها بها: وتعرف إن ضلت، فتهدى لربها ... لموضع آلات من الطلح أربع
And al-alat: wooden planks upon which a tent is built; and from it is the saying of Kathir describing a she-camel and likening her legs to them: 'And she knows if she strays, so she is guided to her Lord... to the place of four 'alat' from the Talh tree.'
تستعمل آلة الدين في طلب الدنيا

يقال: هو بآلة سوء
It is said: He is in a bad state.
كل ابن أنثى، وإن طالت سلامته، ... يوما على آلة حدباء محمول
Every son of a woman, even if his life is long, ... one day will be carried on a humped bier.
آل فلان من فلان أي وأل منه ونجا
So-and-so escaped from so-and-so, meaning he sought refuge from him and was saved.
كما آل من حر النهار طريد
Like a chased one seeking refuge from the heat of the day.
فآل من أصلابها أي ذهب لحم صلبها.
So it diminished from its loins, meaning the flesh of its back disappeared.
إنما طعام فلان القفعاء والتأويل
So-and-so's food is only Qaf'aa' and Ta'wil.
