والإهالة: ما أذبت من الشحم، وقيل: الإهالة الشحم والزيت، وقيل: كل دهن اؤتدم به إهالة، والإهالة الودك.
And 'al-ihalah': what you melt from fat. It is said: 'al-ihalah' is fat and oil. It is said: every fat used as a condiment is 'ihalah', and 'al-ihalah' is 'al-wadak' (fat).
وفي الحديث: أنه كان يدعى إلى خبز الشعير والإهالة السنخة فيجيب
And in the hadith: He used to be invited to barley bread and rancid fat, and he would accept.

And in Ka'b's hadith describing Hellfire: Hell will be brought on the Day of Resurrection as if it were the surface of 'ihalah', meaning its back.
وكل ما اؤتدم به من زبد وودك شحم ودهن سمسم وغيره فهو إهالة، وكذلك ما علا القدر من ودك اللحم السمين إهالة
And everything used as a condiment, from butter, fat, sesame oil, and others, is 'ihalah', and likewise, what rises to the top of the pot from the fat of fatty meat is 'ihalah'.
واستأهل الرجل إذا ائتدم بالإهالة.
And a man 'ista'hala' if he used 'ihalah' as a condiment.

And 'al-musta'hil': he who takes or eats 'ihalah'.
تقول فلان أهل لكذا ولا تقل مستأهل، والعامة تقول.

كن أنت للرحمة مستأهلا، ... إن لم أكن منك بمستأهل
May you be worthy of mercy, ... if I am not worthy of you.
قال: مستأهل ليس من فصيح الكلام وإنما المستأهل الذي يأخذ الإهالة، قال: وقول خالد ليس بحجة لأنه مولد، والله أعلم.
He said: 'Musta'hil' is not from eloquent speech; rather, 'al-musta'hil' is one who takes 'ihalah'. He said: And Khalid's saying is not a proof because it is a neologism, and God knows best.
