The 'uslah of the tongue: the tip of its point towards its end.
ومننه قيل للصاد والزاي والسين أسَلِيَّة، لأن مبدأها من أسلة اللسان، وهو مستدق طرفه
And from this, the letters Sad, Zay, and Sin are called 'asliyyah, because their origin is from the tip of the tongue, which is the tapering end of it.

وفي كلام علي: لم تجف لطول المناجاة أسلات ألسنتهم ؛ هي جمع أسلة وهي طرف اللسان
And in the words of Ali: Their tongues did not dry out from prolonged supplication; they are the plural of 'uslah, which is the tip of the tongue.
إن قطعت الأسلة فبين بعض الحروف ولم يبين بعضا يحسب بالحروف أي تقسم دية اللسان على قدر ما بقي من حروف كلامه التي ينطق بها في لغته

It is narrated from Ali, peace be upon him, that he said: There is no retribution except with 'asl; and 'asl according to Ali, peace be upon him, is everything made thin from iron and sharpened, whether a sword, a knife, or a spearhead.
وأسلت الحديد إذا رققته
And you 'assalt the iron if you thin it.
وإياكم وحذف الأرنب «2» بالعصا وليذك لكم الأسل الرماح والنبل
And beware of hunting the rabbit with a stick, and let 'asl, spears and arrows, be made clear to you.
وقوله الرماح والنبل يرد قول من قال الأسل الرماح خاصة لأنه قد جعل النبل مع الرماح أسلا
And his saying 'spears and arrows' refutes the opinion of one who said 'asl refers only to spears, because he included arrows with spears as 'asl.
والأصل في الأسل الرماح الطوال وحدها، وقد جعلها في هذا الحديث كناية عن الرماح والنبل معا
And the origin of 'asl is long spears alone, and in this hadith, he used it as a metaphor for both spears and arrows.
وقيل النبل معطوف على الأسل لا على الرماح وبدل؛ والرماح بيان للأسل وبدل
And it is said that 'arrows' is coordinated with 'asl, not with 'spears', and is an appositive; and 'spears' is an explanation and appositive for 'asl.
والأسلة: طرف السنان، وقيل للقنا أسل لما ركب فيها من أطراف الأسنة

Among cheeks is the 'aseel, which is soft, smooth, fine, and straight, and the refined, delicate-nosed one.

And a man with an 'aseel cheek if his cheek is soft and long.
وكان أسيل الخد ؛ قال ابن الأثير: الأسالة في الخد الاستطالة وأن لا يكون مرتفع الوجنة
And he had an 'aseel cheek; Ibn al-Athir said: 'Asalah in the cheek means elongation and not having a high cheekbone.
ويقال في الدعاء على الإنسان: بسلا وأسلا كقولهم تعسا ونكسا
And it is said in cursing a person: 'Bisaalan wa 'asalan' like saying 'Ta'san wa Niksan' (misfortune and downfall).
وتأسل أباه: نزع إليه في الشبه كتأسنه
And 'tassala' his father: to resemble him in likeness, like 'tassana' (resembling).
وهو على آسال من أبيه مثل آسان أي على شبه من أبيه وعلامات وأخلاق
And he is on 'aasaal from his father, like 'aasaan', meaning on a likeness to his father, and signs and manners.
