And he lied.
وفنك في الكذب: مضى ولج فيه
And he persisted in lying, delving into it.
فانك في الكذب والشر وفنك وفنك ولا يقال في الخير، ومعناه لج فيه ومحك، وهو مثل التتايع لا يكون إلا في الشر.
So persist in lying and evil, and be stubborn in it; it is not said in good. Its meaning is to be obstinate and persistent in it, and it is like stubbornness that only occurs in evil.
الفنوك اللجاج؛ عن الكسائي وأبو عبيدة مثله، وقد فنك في هذا الأمر يفنك فنوكا أي لج فيه
Stubbornness is persistence; according to Al-Kisa'i and Abu Ubaidah, it is similar. And he persisted in this matter, meaning he was obstinate in it.
وزعم يعقوب أنه مقلوب من فكن.
And Ya'qub claimed it is an inversion of 'fkn'.
الفراء قال: فنكت في لومي وأفنكت إذا مهرت ذلك وأكثرت فيه، فنكت تفنك فنكا وفنوكا.
Al-Farra' said: 'I persisted in my admonishment, and I became skilled in it, meaning I became proficient and abundant in it. I persisted, I persist, with persistence and prolonged persistence.'
والفنيك من الإنسان: مجتمع اللحيين في وسط الذقن، وقيل: هو طرف اللحيين عند العنفقة
And the 'funaik' of a human is the meeting of the jawbones in the middle of the chin, and it is said to be the end of the jawbones near the philtrum.
وفي الحديث: أن النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: أمرني جبريل أن أتعاهد فنيكي بالماء عند الوضوء.
And in the hadith: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: 'Gabriel commanded me to moisten my 'funaik' with water during ablution.'
وفي حديث عبد الرحمن بن سابط: إذا توضأت فلا تنس الفنيكين ، يعني جانبي العنفقة عن يمين وشمال، وهما المغفلة؛ وقيل: أراد به تخليل أصول شعر اللحية.
And in the hadith of Abd al-Rahman ibn Sabit: 'When you perform ablution, do not forget the 'funaikayn', meaning the sides of the philtrum to the right and left, and they are the neglected parts; and it was said that it meant to comb the roots of the beard hair.'
شمر: الفنيكان طرفا اللحيين العظمان الدقيقان الناشزان أسفل من الأذنين بين الصدغ والوجنة، والصبيان ملتقى اللحيين الأسفلين.
Shammar said: The 'funaikan' are the two thin, prominent bones at the ends of the jawbones below the ears, between the temple and the cheek, and for children, the meeting point of the lower jawbones.
والفنيكان من الحمامة: عظيمان ملزقان بقطنها إذا كسرا لم يستمسك بيضها في بطنها وأخدجتها
And the 'funaikan' of a pigeon are two bones attached to its vent; if they are broken, its eggs will not be retained in its belly, and it will miscarry.
وقيل: الفنيك والإفنيك زمكى الطائر، قال ابن دريد: ولا أحقه.
And it is said: The 'funaik' and 'ifnaik' are the cloaca of a bird. Ibn Duraid said: And I do not consider it authentic.
أبو عمرو: الفنيك عجب الذنب.
Abu Amr said: The 'funaik' is the tailbone.
ولا فنك إلا سعي عمرو ورهطه، ... بما اختشبوا من معضد وددان
And there is no wonder except the endeavor of Amr and his kin, ... with what they have prepared from support and gifts.

The sister of Bint Amr came with a wonder.
ومضى فنك من الليل وفنك أي ساعة؛ حكي ذلك عن ثعلب.
And a period of the night passed, and a 'fank' meaning an hour; this was narrated from Tha'lab.
والفنَك: جلد يلبس، معرب؛ قال ابن دريد: لا أحسبه عربيا، وقال كراع: الفنك دابة يفترى جلدها أي يلبس جلدها فروا.
And the 'fank' is a worn skin, a loanword; Ibn Duraid said: I do not think it is Arabic. And Kurra' said: The 'fank' is an animal whose skin is worn as fur.
قيل لأعرابي إن فلانا بطن سراويله بفنك، فقال: التقى الثريان، يعني وبر الفنك وشعر استه؛ وأنشد ابن بري لشاعر يصف ديكة: كأنما لبست أو ألبست فنكا، ... فقلصت من حواشيه عن السوق
An Arab was told that so-and-so's trousers were lined with 'fank'. He replied: 'The two Pleiades have met,' meaning the fur of the 'fank' and the hair of his anus. And Ibn al-Bari narrated for a poet describing roosters: 'As if they wore or were made to wear 'fank', ... and they pulled back their edges from the market.'
