الشركة والشركة سواء: مخالطة الشريكين.
Al-sharikah and al-shirkah are the same: the mixing of the two partners.
اشتركنا بمعنى تشاركنا
We participated in the sense of sharing with each other.
شارك أحدهما الآخر؛ فأما قوله: على كل نهد القصريين مقلص ... وجرداء يأبى ربها أن يشاركا فمعناه أنه يغزو على فرسه ولا يدفعه إلى غيره، ويشارك يعني يشاركه في الغنيمة.
One of them shared with the other; as for his saying: 'On every young camel of the Qusriyyin, sleek... and a lean one whose owner refuses to share,' it means he goes to war on his horse and does not hand it over to another, and 'yushariku' means he shares with him in the spoils.
والشريك: المشارك.
And al-sharīk: the participant.
والشرك: كالشريك؛
And al-shirk: is like al-sharīk;
والجمع أشراك وشركاء؛
And the plural is ashrak and shurakā';
والمرأة شريكة والنساء شرائك.
And the woman is a partner (sharīkah), and women are partners (sharā'ik).
وشاركته في البيع والميراث أشركه شركة، والاسم الشرك؛
And I shared with him in the sale and inheritance, I make him a partner in it (ushrikuhu), a partnership (sharikah), and the noun is al-shirk;
وفي الحديث: من أعتق شركا له في عبد أي حصة ونصيبا.
And in the Hadith: 'Whoever frees a share (shirkan) he owns in a slave, meaning a portion and a share.'
وفي حديث معاذ: أنه أجاز بين أهل اليمن الشرك أي الاشتراك في الأرض، وهو أن يدفعها صاحبها إلى آخر بالنصف أو الثلث أو نحو ذلك.
And in the Hadith of Mu'adh: that he permitted among the people of Yemen al-shirk, meaning participation in the land, which is that its owner gives it to another for half or a third or the like.
إن الشرك جائز ، هو من ذلك؛
'Indeed, partnership is permissible,' it is from that;
والأشراك أيضا جمع الشرك وهو النصيب كما يقال قسم وأقسام، فإن شئت جعلت الأشراك في بيت لبيد جمع شريك، وإن شئت جعلته جمع شرك، وهو النصيب.
And al-ashrāk is also the plural of al-shirk, which is the share, just as qism and aqsām are said. If you wish, you can make al-ashrāk in the verse of Labīd the plural of sharīk, and if you wish, you can make it the plural of shirk, which is the share.
ورأيت فلانا مشتركا إذا كان يحدث نفسه أن رأيه مشترك ليس بواحد.
And I saw so-and-so as mushtarikan if he was talking to himself, meaning his opinion was mixed, not singular.
الناس شركاء في ثلاث: الكلإ والماء والنار ؛
'People are partners (shurakā') in three: herbage, water, and fire;'
تشاركن هزلى مخهن قليل أي عمهن الهزال فاشتركن فيه.
'They shared in emaciation, their brains being little,' meaning emaciation encompassed them, so they shared in it.
وفريضة مشتركة: يستوي فيها المقتسمون، وهي زوج وأم وأخوان لأم، وأخوان لأب وأم، للزوج النصف، وللأم السدس، وللأخوين للأم الثلث، ويشركهم بنو الأب والأم لأن الأب لما سقط سقط حكمه، وكان كمن لم يكن وصاروا بني أم معا؛ وهذا قول زيد.
And a mushtarikah (shared division): in which the inheritors are equal, and it is a husband, a mother, two uterine brothers, and two full brothers. For the husband is half, for the mother is one-sixth, and for the two uterine brothers is one-third. And the sons of the father and mother share them because when the father was excluded, his ruling was excluded, and he was like one who was not there, and they became sons of the mother together; and this is the opinion of Zayd.
فأشرك بينهم ، فسميت الفريضة مشركة ومشركة، وقال الليث: هي المشتركة.
So He made them partners (ashraka) among them, so the division was named musharrakah and musharrakah, and Al-Layth said: it is al-mushtarakah.
وطريق مشترك: يستوي فيه الناس.
And a mushtarik road: in which people are equal.

كالطير الحذر يرى أن له في كل طريق شركا.
'Like a cautious bird that sees that it has a share (shirkan) in every path.'
شرك الطريق: جواده، وقيل: هي الطرق التي لا تخفى عليك ولا تستجمع لك فأنت تراها وربما انقطعت غير أنها لا تخفى عليك، وقيل: هي الطرق التي تختلج، والمعنيان متقاربان، واحدته شركة.
Shirk al-tarīq: its main path. It is said: it is the paths that are not hidden from you and do not converge for you, so you see them, and they may break off, yet they are not hidden from you. It is said: it is the paths that diverge, and the two meanings are close, its singular is sharikah.
أم الطريق معظمه، وبنياته أشراكه صغار تتشعب عنه ثم تنقطع.
The main part of the road is its greatest part, and its offshoots are its small ashrak, branching off from it and then breaking off.
الشركة معظم الطريق ووسطه، والجمع شرك؛

'O Allah, we ask You for the soundness of monotheism and sincerity in faith. Look at these people; their circumambulation and their talbiyah did not benefit them, nor did their saying about the idol 'It is Yours,' nor their saying 'You own it and what it owns,' while naming the idol a partner (sharīkan). Rather, their deeds were nullified by this naming, and their monotheism was not sound with the exception, nor did their excuse benefit them by saying: 'Except to bring us closer to Allah in proximity.'
